Hi folks,
xserver-xorg-video-intel is working.
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics not available atm.
nvidia is only working with some bad hacks, nv no problem.

so far

Well, even though I am a nVidia user I am glad that Debian did not hold off simply for proprietary drivers.

Perhaps need the new xorg on autohold in smxi until xorg's been tested stable?

Hey, cool. Lets see how fast I can break my X-server (I am using ATI MR 9600). Be back with report, later.

Ok, did d-u by smxi. Everything worked fine up to the point where I asked it to install xorg radeon driver. Script failed out saying that it "requires Xorg 7.1 or better to be installed." I guess that means that something about how they do the numbering changed.

Moving on, I changed xorg.conf by hand to use radeon, rather than fglrx, and did init 5. X server came up just fine. I have an ATI Mobility Radeon 9600.

      Code:
Videocard       ATI Radeon RV250 If [Radeon 9000]  X.Org 1.4.0  [ 1280x1024 @303hz ]

Xorg 7.3+2 is running!

but only low glx speed with the xorg-ati-driver, usually 2300 FPS,
      Code:
glxgears
6896 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1379.067 FPS
7080 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1415.907 FPS
7065 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1412.832 FPS
6349 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1269.695 FPS

Video-files show no images
and another special is the high monitor rate:

UncleDeadley, you do not ever need to reinstall your xorg drivers, they are not like binaries. the only exception to this is for users of the experiimental xorg radeon drivers installed via sgfxi, those users should keep an eye out for either new experimental drivers, or switch to the newly released, now, xorg ati/radeon drivers, which should soon be roughly the same as the experimental stuff.

The 242 unsupported x version issue is fixed, xorg for no apparent reason randomly changed the xorg id text string, thus breaking sgfxi xorg version detection.

h2, I had been using the fglrx driver, so I thought I would switch it over the 'nice' way by your script, seeing as how I don't really know what's going on under all that scripting Wink

The update through smxi seems to be okay for me using an amd64 desktop with Intel graphics. The synaptics driver was removed but I don't need it.
