http://www.linuxlove.org/2008/03/03/sneak-peak-at-soon-arriving-sidux-2008
Thats the skimmer - not really a review, just a quick touch on some of the features. But some guy in the comments that goes by Brian is spreading FUD.
He says sidux sucks because, abstractly, he can't use it. Seriously, we would know if the distribution that we use sucks. So if you think it sucks, you suck at using it right. There's this thing called a learning curve and a a will to research how to use a distribution. Yes, its all linux, but too bad practically every distribution is different in some fundamental way that is large enough to where one would feel uncomfortable switching.
But really? That guy's a joke. |

Me too! sidux is one of the most stable distributions i've had. If you read the incoming dist-upgrades and the upgrade warnings |

It should be said by someone such as myself who, having very little experience in the inner workings of Linux in general, have tried numerous(12-14) different distros and find sidux to be the easiest, quickest, most stable (yes stable!) distro I have ever used. There will always be issues with different computers in Linux and I find sidux to be EXTREMELY intuitive. Also, all the bull about gui vs. cli? Why? isnt smxi simple enough? I bet a five year old could do it if they could read. And set up their system very nicely. I continue to try different distros, the latest being Linux Mint (fluxbox) and while I think it is an excellent distro, it just cant compare. I get good ideas from other distros but always come back to sidux.
All this being said I think its ridiculous to find fault in a progressive distro that caters to the majority's needs AND wants.
To the people that work on sidux to make it better: Keep up the excellent work. I'm surprised other distros arent breaking down your doors trying to subvert you. Thank you for all of your time consuming, and difficult work. It is what allows me to focus on learning new things without worry. |

Looks like they turned on comment approval, so here's my last post which probably won't make it.
Quote:
“Flash is unstable, Flash will crash your browser… blah blah blah.”
No.
“Have fun installing Java and having it work well in sidux! Just ask how to in their forums and they will ask you to leave”
Nice try.
“Who needs to watch movies, youtube, vidoes or streaming audio when you’ve got a word processor to practice typing with?”
Sure, why not. Sounds like something you would do anyway.
‘How do I double click? Oh god maybe I”ll just use my MICROSOFT word processor for everything since I don’t know how to ask for help like a normal human being or google like a simple dipshit.’
“I will stick with Mint, Mepis, PCLOS and the like and watch youtube while the FSF keep preaching about anarchy, a free world and that crap.”
Thank you, your presence in our forums would ruin our friendly atmosphere. I hope the Mint, Mepis, or PCLOS communities know how to lie really well so that you would feel welcomed.
Oh and with flash: apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
Same command in Ubuntu and even PCLOS I believe (some derivative maybe) - proof that you never entered our forums or asked for help on IRC. The sidux community is known or its timely knowledgeable answers by people that enjoy helping others. If you were not treated well, you did not respect any of the members.
I also recommend going back to school. It’s apparent you are a drop out working at minimum wage. I’m really sorry for your predicament but if you try, there is always a way to increase your general intelligence. These “schools” even include simple classes on rhetoric (I hope that word isn’t too large for you!) where you can realize that in fact, it is possible to backup persuasive essays with facts! Amazing right? I’m sure that would take your rants to a whole new dimension of legitimacy.

| Seems Brian has the case of the boo-hoo-hoo's and its sickening. If he can't read the sidux manual (which is very well written) or even come here or on the #sidux channel for help, he's just sounding like a little baby. Best he stick with Windows or Ubuntu. I for one getting tired of the 'buntu fanbois dissing sidux the way they have been. |

don't worry. In fact, encourage these fan boys to diss sidux. And, in the same threads, simply make a few statements: sidux is faster, sidux is more cutting edge, sidux is rolling release, sidux is totally compatible with the largest software package pool in the world, natively. People reading the thread will respond favorably to the view that reflects their interests and needs.
Those three statements are all the advertising sidux needs to keep getting advanced users who want a fast, cutting edge, rolling release distro that feeds straight from debian sid repos.. Such users are already looking for something better than mepis, ubuntu, or pclos |

I generally prefer to let them wallow in their ignorance. I couldn't stop my fingers this time, though.

| That troll did not really do the original author of the review any justice. While the review was brief, it was typical of what a user would experience using sidux. That troll "Brian" had a lot of nerve to slam the review the way he did... |

That Brian should use Sabayon and be happy. They package what he wants.
It only annoys me that he thinks he can qualify the effort of people he does not know as futile. Well, I regard dissing things I do not use as futile.
I agree with h2: don't feed them and counter attack with the values a distribution offers.
It would never occur to me, dissing Sabayon for not having a clean upgrade path for Gentoo: they do not want to do it, it's a feature. If I don't like it, I don't use it (well, I don't use it), but I see the point, why other people love it.
Same with Mint.

| Yep. There are growing numer of Linux users with somekind of fear text mode apps or even for some basic configuration files. If someone is not willing to learn that aspect of Linux desktop usage he/she is out of luck with sidux. Also many people thinks that sidux and Ubuntu has similar relationship to Debian sid. |

Sometimes trolls wander into the IRC channel too...trolls don't last long there as they get "Das Boot" from the likes of the mighty etorix
We are a community that values worthy opinions and not worthless drivel from idiotic jackasses. |
