Glad to hear this, seeing as my XFCE install serves as my "random low-requirement wm" installation. (Been switching between Fvwm-crystal, LXDE, and E17). Figure, I'll see how well this runs. Very Happy

This repo installs things in funny places against debian policy. (Not to be critical but I am surprised that this is maintained by a debian developer - or a Ubuntu one.)

Are you sure that the location moved to deb http://opengeu.linuxfreedom.com/ubuntu sid e17-testing ?

These packages install the /usr/libs and /usr/bin stuff to /usr/local/.

And that is not even consistant. The /usr/share stuff is located in the expected /usr/share

Perhaps file a bug report with the repo owner to let them be aware of the issue, to ensure that files belonging to other packages are not getting overwritten by accident when these packages are installed

Hi all,

I am not sure if the above mentioned repo on openfeu.linuxfreedom.com is the same as the original one on greenies.sk but I will ask quaker about it. The original repo on greenies.sk is not working any longer as the repo generated too much traffic and was thus blocked by the provider. The good news however is that the E17 developers decided to have an official repo at their own server which will hold packages for Debian Sid, Ubuntu and possibly RPM packages too.

As for the location of packages: I will contact quaker about this too. As soon as there is any news, I will post it here.

To make all things right:

1. sorry i didn't reply before but i had a lot of work with preparation of a new repository
2. linuxfreedom.com repo is the same as on greenie.sk but greenie.sk repo was closed because of very high traffic 2,5TB per month, greenie.sk can't have this traffic, linuxfreedom can
3. Linuxfreedom repo will be moved again - my repo will become official - it will be on packages.enlightenment.org
4. About /usr/local, that will be changed in the new repo Smile

I will tell you when new packages.enlightenment.org will be running! We made a team of packagers and we are working on it. According to Enlightenment release schedule, packages will be done this Sunday evening(21:00 timezone +0100 or maybe sooner Smile)

first of all: hello,
and here comes my question:
does one of you know how to start the ecomorphed version from a login-terminal; that is without a login-manager?

@jalu:

In order to run ecomorph, you need to start enlightenment in 'evil' mode like this:

enlightenment_start -evil

After that you can fire up ecomorph with:

ecomorph.sh

thanks a lot, it worked without problems. as i don`t like login-manager it is a big help.
as the repo changed i also changed the pinning:
      Code:
Package: *
Pin: origin opengeu.linuxfreedom.com/ubuntu sid e17-testing
Pin-Priority: 600

is that correct?

btw: that was a very useful tip/how-to, i had no issues at all (well: i did it just yesterday,
might be they come later Smile ) .
thanks again and greetings

post-edit:
@Dion thanks for clearing the pinning-question in your next post.

We still have just 0.16.999.050+svn20090203 in Debian Experimental. Does anyone have infos about the future of e17 in Debian? The exisitng bug reports do not give any clue. Does anyone have personal contact to a member of the e17 Debian maintainer team?

Greetings,
Chris

@Chris: I regularly talk to Daniel Kolesa aka quaker66. He is the Debian and Ubuntu maintainer for E17. His contact details are in one of the original posts in this same thread. He is usually on jabber.

There is a release schedule for E17, to be found on: http://trac.enlightenment.org/e/wiki/ReleaseSchedule
They announce that the official release is now planned for xmas this year (wow, finally a date!)

The E17 team can also be contacted on IRC on freenode.org, channel #e

Untill then there will be an official repo, soon to be anounced at packages.enlightenment.org

As far as I know, quaker is also working on a sidux-based live CD with E17 and planning to give all his work back to the sidux community. So that might be interesting.

Greetings,
Dion

Thanks for the info.

It would be very important to get a most recent version of e17 into Debian Sid, this would be a base for generating official support for it in sidux, and probably even officially release an e17 version of full featured sidux, if we can find 2 interested developers who commit themselves to it.

Until that only private builds sidux e17 builds are possible, but even those should be created with our own build scripts, and not using any "re-master" methods. Please let quaker know that I would be willing to assist him with that if needed, as we do have some e17 fans around here.

Greetings,
Chris

@slam: as far as I know, quaker is using pyfll for the live CD. But I will ask him to contact you. Thank you for the offer already!

Edit: Change this to:

      Code:
wget -O- http://opengeu.linux.freedom.com/ubuntu/dists/repo.key | apt-key add -

typo .. no period between linux & freedom

3. To prevent apt installing packages from sid, put this in /etc/apt/preferences:

      Code:
Package: *
Pin: origin opengeu.linux.freedom.com/ubuntu
Pin-Priority: 600

same typo here too
