A little later than originally planned, we now have the pleasure to announce the availability of the first preview for sidux 2009-02 "Αιθήρ", shipping with kernel 2.6.30 and in the following flavours:
- KDE-lite, amd64, en/ de, ≈590 MB.
- KDE-lite, i686, en/ de, ≈585 MB.
- XFCE-lite, amd64+i686, ≈765 MB.
Please note this is not the final release, the full featured final release of "Αιθήρ" will be ready in about 1-2 weeks, further previews might be provided as needed until then.
sidux is a full featured Debian sid based live CD with a special focus on hard disk installations, a clean upgrade path within sid and additional hard- and software support. The ISO is completely based on Debian sid, enriched and stabilized with sidux' own packages and scripts.

The Hungarian -hu version of the the sidux Operating System manual with mrowl and reuss as translators/maintainers goes online at manual.sidux.com site and has been in translation now for 12 months almost to the day!The translation to Hungarian was started by honorshark and joined by reuss and zolix but this year its been ruess on his own until mrowl showed up and things started moving rapidly again.
The Hungarian language is the 16th language to be added the sidux-manuals, and since sidux opened it doors, a new language has been added every 2 months.

Right after KDE4 we are facing Xserver-Xorg 1.6.Please do not dist-upgrade until all packages are in and we had a chance to have a closer look.
New Xorg has some heavy changes when it comes to input devices (evdev).
We will keep you updated.
EDIT:
As all packages have arrived on the mirrors for both arches dist-upgrades are possible again
Here is a bit of background info on the new input device handling with Xserver-Xorg 1.6:

After testing the upgrade from KDE3.5 to KDE4 on a lot of systems we think the time is here for a howto. This cannot be understood as a generic howto that works in the same way on every system, there might still be some packages missing on your system.
So, for anyone who does not feel comfortable with finding out missing stuff by themselves or looking for help on IRC it could be a good idea to wait for sidux-2009-02 and do a fresh install.
Most systems should work with this howto, but expect some glitches.
