My vote with the devil. I hope everybody recognized the Wink at the end of my easy button preview show. Smile

Greetings,

I wanted to enter the fray, but after reading this post I was laughing to hard. Picturing the Staples commercial and this possible scenario is just halarious. I couldn't stop laughing. Funnest post I've seen here.

Anyway, back on topic. Maybe this would be a good chance to invite your friends over and for you to show them first hand Linux and general and sidux's afvance features.

About Partitioning. I have googled and even searched here. I find a lot of possible solutions. One partition for those using video, one for faster hard drives - ext2,ext3, ReiserFS, LVM, etc. I usually end up using ext2. One reason I use ext2 is I usually dual boot with Windows NTFS.

The big red button needs to be pressed.
Actually it should be simpler.
Boot with the CD and it installs. Very Happy

Better still, click on a download link and it automagically downloads the iso, burns it to disk (with a popup message instructing the user to insert the disc at the correct time, though the devs may want to look at ways for the installer to magically insert the disc itself, in case that stage is a little too complicated), and installing it to hard drive.

Rather than go down the nuking all partitions route, the installer could also psychically work out what kind of partition configuration the user wants

Very Happy

<NOTE>
I'm just having a laugh of course. No offence intended and I'm not trying to suggest all noobs are mindless idiots who can't do anything for themselves, apart from the ubuntu users of course Very Happy

Noooo. That was just a joke too.

Well, I think instead of an easy button, include a help pane on the side of each category explaining whats happening, especially the partitioning area - because the guys that really need help installing sidux probably still have another distribution or operating system they would like to hang on to. In the event which the installation fails or just something really crazy happens, they can always fall back to their previous setup.

Ubuntu's installer is a good example. I'm pretty sure no one runs the guided install and then sits back and thinks, good job installer, you did everything right. I've always had to go back, delete the changes the installer makes, and recreate the partitions I need.

Now that's just a personal experience, there's room for discussion on that matter, but, at the end of the day, no one wants the easy button, we want to know what we're doing.

You can help someone cheat to results, or you can tell them how to get the results... I would stick to the latter.

When you make such a feature, I will be more than happy to test it.

BTW, sidux has to be one of the most easiest installs of linux I have ever seen to begin with

I tend to agree. And if your computer has enough speed to it, it's one of the fastest installs I've ever tried.
