Hello all,

encountered a small prob with the new 2.6.24 kernel. also used the newest one via smxi.

It seems the the dvd-device is not properly used.

k3b claims that there is no burner (after trying a long time showing only its logo)

content from dmesg

the same appears with the newest distro preview.

Using the 2.6.23.15 kernel worked without a problem after.

"to get the device back requires a cold-start btw."

Thanks for any hints and help in advance.

My fstab

# /etc/fstab is only read by programs, and not written; it is the duty of the

I saw k3b fail to handle a dvd unit when it did not have the specs in its database one time, finally an upgrade let it see it, what's the device actually? Is it brand new?

Maybe try changing it to (in fstab)
Code:
# automatically added, LITE-ON_DVDRW_LH-20A1S
/dev/cdrom   /media/cdrom   udf,iso9660   user,noauto   0   0

Hello all,

I have just installed an old kernel 2.6.23.16 on the newest distro and the k3b / dvd problem dissappeared.

What is your proposal how to continue.

I've no clue where the problem lies.

Any ideas welcome.

Have you checked your cables?
Tried latest 2.6.24.3.slh.2?

Hello,

did not check cables so far; behaviour seems to be dependent on
kernel, since once performed the upgrade it came to this situation. Never had this before.

My first 2.6.24's gave some some similar (hard disk) dmesg errors which turned out to be a cable issue previously unnoticed.
