I recently moved from Kubuntu to sidux final 1 and for some reason the GUI/Look of the windows, besides those applications that are found in kde-base, appear as if to have a Microsoft Windows 95 look to them, very blocky.

This did not happen on my sidux test preview 4. Anyone have a clue? Openoffice writer, looks ...well ..just wrong.

...It is quiet in here! Anyone...anyone...Bueller?

Anyway, I figured this little problem out on my own and thought I would share in the event others would like to piggyback off my discovery, so here goes.

I thought something was missing from the Kcontrol/Appearance & Themes selections from what I remember on Kubuntu and other distros. It was this...

http://gtk-qt.ecs.soton.ac.uk/

Yes, that is correct kiddies, to get that KDE panel look on all your other applications, except open office which I will get to in a minute, install this, "gtk-qt" from a terminal or Adept and REBOOT your system. Your applications should now have that smooth, and oh so stubble-free...errr..wait, that's me shaving...non-Microcrap Windows 95 appearance. That is the ticket!

Openoffice... seems not to be affected by the program above for some reason, which is odd, because it matched the KDE panel GUI in Kubuntu. Perhaps this is why sidux has supplied the option to install in their metapackage-installer *insert dramatic theme music here.* This installer will not only Konquer (get it?) the world, but contains an option to install openoffice. Unfortunately, it crashes on me, which is very unsettling and left me with gas.

So, I will continue to research this little Openoffice problem and report back with my findings.

When you delete gtk-qt, do the applications skin just like the KDE-base apps? Also, where do I find these h2 scripts? Also..how did you install openoffice? Also..one time in bandcamp...

Update...I removed the openoffice-repo version completely by performing this as root... "apt-get remove openoffice*" then, once again *que dramatic music*, ran the option to install openoffice from the sidux metapackage-installer *said with booming voice this time*.

I am happy to report all is well now and open office is skinned like all the other KDE apps. BTW, I might point out that I installed sidux via the mini or lite CD.

Thanks for attending the show folks. Next week we will be showing, "Footloose and Wireless, The Forbidden Love of Ndiswrapper."

@rodneyck: I really enjoy reading your posts, even when I'm not involved in the communication. A person with your humor was always missing in our community - welcome abroad Rod!
And please don't judge sidux after the ugly look of dudes like Piper. Wink
Greetings,
Chris

Slam, thanks for the kind words. I am glad to splash a little color on the forums. For it is said that, "Computing without laughter, is like driving in a funeral procession wearing nothing but a smile." Shocked

Perhaps no one actually said that, and I am not entirely sure if it makes sense at this point. What were we talking about? Smile

With GTK it's the same as with QT: If you find the look ugly, just change the theme Wink

By the way, there is also an Redmond-Look for KDE.
I use almost no QT-applications, but the Look of my Programs has nothing to do with Win*

rodneyck,
I'm glad you didn't just 'apt-get install openoffice.org-kde' which may have solved your problem, because your 'little color on the forums' looks pretty nice.
