There's also another issue, in contrast to web browsers (although this might change soon), there is no perfect mail client for anyone - even this small thread mentions 7 completely different ones.
So which one to pick..?
The whole purpose of kde-lite is to keep it small, significantly smaller than kde-full and to be a good base for installed systems, even if the user doesn't "agree" with our ideas about "perfect" solutions to a given problem - it's about choice and not bloating the package list.
On a live CD, a mail client is pretty useless as no data can be preserved over the next boot (I'm forgetting about persistency setups here), additionally mail folders quickly get really full (just as example, the Mail folder on this notebook (which gets just copies of a only a small subset of the mail I have to read and archives everything after 30 days) weighs 1.6 GB). There just is no perfect mail application for anyone, if you want to install - enjoy the freedom of picking your preferred one. If want to test it live, kde-full ships with kmail (which satisfies my needs for more than 7 years) and considering the size of an ordinary mailbox, installing the mail client as well doesn't add up much space. |
