I can't believe there is no email client in sidux Lite. It makes no sense, everyone needs one.

That said, what do others use. I just installed Kmail but is there something lighter and faster?

Then suggest one that makes "sense" and doesn't bloat the "lite" size out by a few tens of megabytes.

Opera Wink

The smaller, faster browser on Earth. Includes a powerful mail client (IM2)
Also supports IRC, Bittorrent, newsfeeds............The Opera .deb Repository

No problem, you just have to convince Opera to release the source under a dfsg-free license[full-stop].

Does Sylpheed now have a way to import my current address book from Kmail?
It is a great program but the address book was very limited a couple of years ago.

A small email client? How about including Mutt?

Besides being non free, the opera email method is about as bad as the outlook method, which is to create one single massive binary blob file to store the user emails in. Proprietary format, of course. I'm waiting for the day that unixneophyte grows up to be a unixComprehender, and finally then stops making such suggestions that simply confirm the accuracy of his chosen nick.

Not everyone needs a email client, many ppl, myself included are quote happy using webmail. Especially on a livecd what would be the point?

Gmail has POP3 access set up so you can use it anywhere with any computer. Many ISPs are now partnering with google and don't even do their own email, as mine has now done. It gets them out of all the spam and blocking issues. You can transfer in your existing address book too. Nothing is lighter or more portable. It makes an email client obsolete and superfluous for many of us.

Pop3 is good if you want to save your messages to your hard drive.

Thanks wh7qq and Craigevil. I knew there must be some reasoning behind this as an email client is hardly a huge bloat problem and easy to inlcude on a CD. Of course running a live CD as OS, an email client would be cumbersome, always having to enter the server address and the protocol, etc.

Webmail is a lot more flexible for those who don't check their email from the same location all the time.

I've used mutt before and I should try it again. Mutt and Sylpheed always seem to come up in discussions about light email clients.

A nice webmail service is Mail2Web, which automatically detects the service and connects to it. It works for most of the main services I've tested.

Also, Opera? Eeeeww!
