I have redone the sgfxi ati card detection, and am now using a blacklist only for ati cards, like with nvidia. Long term this will be easier to maintain I think, since it will only be new cards that will ever require handling if they are not supported.

Because of how many different ati cards there are, I'd like to confirm that the detections are working as they should.

The test is very simple, and you can do it in X (as su/root, of course):

sgfxi -U (to update sgfxi)
sgfxi -X (no need to run the install, just see what driver is offered in the initial print out for install, or the error message it shows, then exit with x + enter)

If you know your card works with fglrx, but it shows error 253, unsupported card, please post that information here, along with this output: lspci -nn | grep VGA

Note: I am not going to attempt to support legacy ati cards with the fglrx driver in any way, shape or form, ati is too unreliable to waste my time with those endless tweaks, so if it's 9250 series or older, forget about it. Use: sgfxi -N radeon
instead. There are also some more current firegl cards that are not supported due to issues in fglrx itself.

Also, if you know your card does NOT work with fglrx, but sgfxi offers you the debian-sid-fglrx driver OR one of the new 7-xx ati drivers as the install default, also post that information here, with: lspci -nn | grep VGA

Please do not post if it works fine as expected, tnat is what should happen anyway, I am only interested in the cases of incorrect detections and support.

It updates itself, like smxi and svmi, that's not actually ever necessary unless it's not updating for some weird reason.

Please read the thread topic, by the way, this thread is ONLY for confirmation of ATI card support correctness. If you have other discussion topics, please move them to another thread. I am going to split all the non related stuff here to a new thread: http://sidux.com/PNphpBB2-viewtopic-t-8412.html

This isn't related to the main topic, but thanks for letting me know about that anyway, I was wondering if it would work, no surprise it doesn't.

its simpel.. "ATI users, please do a test for sgfxi support "
But the sgfxi skript do not have the newest 8.01 driver in it.
so sgfxi do not work becourse the 7.12 AMD driver...

i do not say anythink of the Quality of the working... for example Tremulous do not start and Nexuiz are so slow ans some graifc errors...

but yes the 2D part works... and the ati/amdcontrol center works..

LOL.....

"On workstation hardware 3D applications will be corrupted if the screen width is not an integer multiple of 64 pixels, for example with a 1680x1050 wide screen display. Further details can be found in topic number 737-31720"

http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=7427

Wrong resulution...

Qaridarium, thanks for doing the testing, but please note the actual topic of the thread, that's about a very simple user test, it's not about if the drivers actually work or not, I always expect ati stuff to fail, that's normal.

I just added the 8.01 driver however, but again, that's not related to the topic of this thread, that's ONLY about if the new detection for card version in sgfxi works for the card or not.

Anyway, I guess this is the week of people not reading, but thanks for running the test, I'll upload the sgfxi with 8-01, but I just tested it and the packages failed to build...

Code:

You are using the following options:
-X - Skip the test for X/KDE. Only use if you know what you are doing!

The graphics installer will be installing the fglrx driver: debian-sid-fglrx

"install-xorg-radeon" better for me, fglrx freezes on kde-exit

Gruß, der_bud
