I've got a fresh install of sidux (2007-04 p2) and installed the firmware for my 4695n driver with apt-get install firmware-iwlwifi. I modified my /etc/networking/interfaces to add
Code:
wlan0 auto
wlan0 inet dhcp
I *think* I'm connected to my access point ok. As root, I used
Code:
iwconfig wlan0 "myessid"
iwconfig wlan0 ap any
the output from iwconfig shows me connected and associated, but when I bring the interface up (ifup wlan0) I can't get an IP address:
Quote:
wmaster0: unknown hardware address type 801
wmaster0: unknown hardware address type 801

DHCPDISCOVER on wlan0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 5

DHCPDISCOVER on wlan0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 10
DHCPDISCOVER on wlan0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 13
DHCPDISCOVER on wlan0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 3
NO DHCPOFFERS received
No working leases in persistent database - sleeping.
Did I miss something required? Encryption is off.. I want to get it working before I add WEP or WPA.
Thanks. |

not /etc/networking/interfaces, it is /etc/network/interfaces
and why dont you use netcardconfig. It does all for you...
I am also using 4695 with dhcp and WPA without any problems.

Sorry, I meant /etc/network/interfaces -- it was a typo.
I also tried netcardconfig but I get the same result. |

I have the same problem, I connect using manual commands in a root terminal and kwifi.
Sprinter1, did you configure your computer with the 4695 or did you have it hooked up to another network connection when you installed sidux? |

I'm not completely sure if this is a solution, but on IRC Sprinter1 mentioned that he couldn't get it working with WEP. I couldn't get it working without encryption at all but it seems to be taking with WPA. YMMV.. |

I set up this laptop connected via wire to my dhcp router. After kernel update and a hugh d-u I set up the wireless card.
And yes, only WPA works for me.
(By the way, my networkcard is the new Intel 4965 card, not 4695...)
