Hi,
I have a Dell used for audio apps so needs it's XP partition (custom HW drivers for hi-spec audio sampler).
Right now for Linux I'm booting from an image of Kanotix 2005-03 as a .iso on the main NTFS partition (there is only 400M other space).
Struggling to get sidux to boot from an NTFS-held image - and notice that the cheatcodes for a poor man's install do not indicate booting a .iso can be performed from NTFS. Other fs are listed but not NTFS.
will "no NTFS iso boot support" be retained for 2007-04?
Thanks!

fromiso from ntfs should work with 2007-04 eros (including the pre1 preview) but not with earlier sidux releases. Of course you will need a suitable way to boot it (such as a version of grub with ntfs support).

I can confirm what bfree said and add a bit to it. Once you get a grub version with ntfs support you can boot the sidux iso from a ntfs partition. I've been doing this since knoppix 3.7, passing all the way thru kanotix 2006-3 to sidux 2007-04 pre1.
I found my grub version with ntfs in the knoppix forum. If I can find it, I'll post the link
NOTE: The version I've been using was the second release of it, since it has been working without problems I haven't used any recent version. Given that, I can't say that it will work, or if it will not harm your system. That grub version or any other grub modification isn't supported by the sidux team developer. You may ask for help in this forum about it , but don't expect help from the developers. Thank you.
Sorry for the dull note, but this would be the attitude from any foreign tool.
Also I'd like to point an alternative to the fromiso cheat. If you burn your iso to a cd and boot it from it, sidux has a new tool that let's you install sidux in a USB stick.
UPDATE: Found it. The howto is in http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Win_Partition do steps 1-3. You only need to download the "Patched GRUB & Ruymbeke's knoppix 3.6,3.7,3.81" file. If you want to know the whole story http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic. ... mp;start=0 I have no idea if this will work with vista. I have it working with Windows XP
Note2: That patched grub will only boot the iso, whatever changes you do in the livecd will be lost when you shutdown the machine.

good for the warning, op4latino...I'll test that patched GRUB myself. If it is OK to include it, perhaps the patch submitted upstream to GRUB maintainers upstream or post bug report to have that ntfs functionality builtin

We won't support persistence to ntfs anytime soon.
