Hello,
I was searching the forums for pulseaudio but there's not much.
I did a search on my system and it's not installed.
I was wondering what the steps are for installing or what packages I should install.
I noticed someone did this:
apt-get install libasound2-plugins "pulseaudio-*" paman padevchooser paprefs pavucontrol pavumeter
Do you recommend that or if not, which ones?
I've had poor experience with pusleaudio in Linux but thought I'd give it a try in sidux. I've been told there's a lot of steps involved in installing and configuring. This is in Debian. But, that it works.
I have a Kubuntu partition and although I did get it to work, somehow it 'broke' on me and now it's not working. I have some steps but I was wondering if anyone here has any steps or instructions. Or is too much of a hassle for most?
I suppose instructions on how to install in Debian would apply to sidux even though sidux is based on Sid? I really don't know if that would make any difference so I'm asking.
I've also had problems in which volume on a media player, Kaffeine, for e.g., would get muted and I think I read this is a bug in Pulseaudio/ALSA (but, my equalizer settings didn't change). I find Pulseaudio annoying, confusing and complicated but I would still like to figure it out.
I hope someone here uses it or is interested in helping. What is with Pulseaudio anyway? Is it going to replace ALSA? |

I have it installed on Kubuntu 8.10 -- it seems to work fine. Maybe the dependency information from Synaptic will help you figure out what you need -- here's a screenie:

Thanks, dibl! That will serve as a good guide!
Actually, I had it work briefly in Kubuntu 8.10 but it 'broke.' It stopped working and I cannot restart it as the attempt fails and it gives errors. I have no clue what happened but I followed a series of steps for configuring it for Debian. Very frustrating.
I just wanted to make sure that I have the right package installed when/if I try to configure it in sidux. I would assume it will be similar steps but we shall see.
I assume it will be a troubleshooting procedure of figuring out what the error messages refer to and going from there. |

tuxracer,
I hope you find the sound references in this Webcam/Skype/Sound Settings link helpful.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php? ... vision+pro
Start at the Packages link and then add the suggested text to your ~/.asoundrc file.
If you do not have such a file (Home > View> Show Hidden Files > .asoundrc), then create one.
Ignore the Skype section if this is not relevant for you.
Look at numbers 2 to 4 in the Sound Settings section. This is written for Gnome in Ubuntu so you will have to search KDE and sidux for the equivalent settings. |
