Just a little tip: If a thread starts in the English Forum, typed in English, a good idea would be to keep the thread in English. I was following this thread with interest until it switched to German, at which point I was basically lost.
Agreed, seeker...but if you are not sure about a post that's made in a language different that the language used to start a thread, why not nicely ask for a translation
Admittedly trying to read German, if you are not familiar with it can be a challenge |

Or just use http://babelfish.altavista.com to translate into english. That is basically what I was doing when the shift occurred. |

the best for a new sidux user is:
to start with an offical release of sidux, at time sidux-2007-03.
And after this do an apt-get update && apt-get upgrade?
Thanks

If this was a question, the answer is: Yes.
But you should do this update in init 3. You should consider to use the smxi script which makes dist-upgrades very easy and provides a lot of fixes and additional stuff like kernel updates, kernel remove, clean and install stuff. |

My understanding is the the developers recomment ONLY dist_upgrade. |

First Preview of Eros is out
http://sidux.com/Article348.html
One can use that now, and sidux previews are ususally rock solid, I used previews of tartaros and gaia for installation purposes without any problems.
dist-upgrade: gets new dependencies in, keeps system totally uptodate
upgrade: leaves new dependencies out, keeps system on an older level

I would not suggest using an installation of a preview release for long term. But it is worth installing it to help find bugs.
Problem is, if you get too happy with it then later release candidates don't receive the same testing |

Can anyone elaborate on this? It seems counter-intuitive to me on sid of all distros. |

Yes, never use upgrade, but dist-upgrade only at sidux/Debian Sid.
