So these are the 100 best products of the year according to PC World: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,13193 ... ticle.html
But what is the point of things like this? It's not even a public vote, it's decided by the PC world editors.
There is one linux related thing there (you guessed it, ubuntu) but how on earth can you compare an antivirus to a whole operating system or a camera to gmail? |

maketing, marketing, marketing.
that's the key of these nonsense collections of junk.... one example for all: tomtom one is listed.... though I own a tomtom go 910 which literally *smokes* the former.... so they just need to push mainstream junk to raise profits.
I won't waste time keeping on reading it.
But it's nice being a famous IT publisher... you get lotsa money for the ads |

I pick up a pc world now and then at the library, and, I'm happy to note, yes, in fact, it still really does suck.
Consider it the USA today of technical computer magazines. |

Well, with so many magazines focused on Windows, it's hard to find any IT magazine that is really unbiased. There are a couple of Linux magazines but they of course are biased the other way.
The same can be said about products of just about any kind. Everybody has their personal preferences and if they are a writer of articles, you can be sure their bias will appear in their stories. We would most likely do the same because we all love sidux too much to say how a distro like PCLinuxOS is such a good choice. We would almost surely find fault with it because we subconsciously think about the differences between them.
For someone who has access to all different gadgets, surely one or two stand out better, but that again is personal preference. Some people prefer an Ipod to a Creative Zen, while others say a Zune is the best. All of them are heavily proprietary, so for me it's comparing 3 products I would never buy, and that attitude would show up in any review.
So remember, whatever you read that is based on personal opinion, it is exactly that. Take it with a grain of salt and do yourself a favor and check out other reviews to make sure what you think is a review is not just marketing hype. |
