I had to pull the patches in recent kernels, as they seemed to introduce a regression for plain old rtl8187, while they did work for another sidux dev properly with the classic rtl8187.
Given that I personally cannot test it myself on either the classic or the rtl8187b variant, and because pit couldn't get it working with rtl8187b either (even though I'm pretty confident that it should have worked), I had to pull it again. It's likely to work with kernel 2.6.27 though.

Sorry, but sometimes the risks outweigh the gains, in case one cannot do proper regression testing with the potentially affected hardware.

@slh: thank you anyway for trying it! i checked out 2.6.26-0 (device wlan0 was found, scanning was possible, I could see some ap's, but my access point was not found) and 2.6.26-1 (no device found). as you suggested i removed everything connected with ndiswrapper, checked my /etc/network/interfaces, /etc/modules (no ndiswrapper, no rtl8187) and so on. the 0-kernel listed rtl8187 as loaded module, with 1-kernel i had to load it manualy. but even after that i could't get any connection, nor could i see any network by scanning. no success. Sad maybe 2.6.27 will do. still hoping, pit

I try to connect wireless to my router after upgrading to kernel 2.6.27.
Laptop gots rtl8187b, router is fritz!box 7050 phone.

I'm only able to see (iwlist) other stations which use mode=master and wpa/tkip. Maybe the internal kerneldriver for rtl8187b doesn't support the 802.11i (wpa2) standard? Ndiswrapper & windows driver did. I don't know how to configure my router to mode=master. Looking to the configuration frontend (browser) I cannot find any choice of this kind (see screenshots at the end of this posting).

I compared everything while using kernel 2.6.24 & 2.6.27:
