The Sexiest Linux Distribution

Quote:
sidux 2007-03's superior hardware support (Debian's plus sidux's driver modules and firmwares) and the more than eighteen thousands of free software (on Debian and sidux repositories) will definitely make it a good choice for your desktop. Even the VirtualBox software has recently made it to the Debian sid repository. The quick or timely bug fixes is also another strength of sidux and Debian. I have three chief complaints though.

There was no icon for the mounted usbkey on the desktop. So I had to access the Storage media icon to access the usbkey's content. Secondly, it's difficult to add in the Sun Java browser plugin manually. Thirdly, I think that the number of configuration tools for the network devices were a bit redundant although they might have been created to allow more than one way of doing things.

First decent review I've seen.

It was very informative (nice showcase of sidux-cc too) without being opinionated and no comparisons to other particular distros, which is always a pet peeve of mine with reviews (unless it is a direct comparison review of two distros).

And the reviewer coined a new word - "siduxtive"

In fact it did just what a review should do. It gave the reader the details and facts they needed to make their own mind up whether or not it was something they would want to try for themselves.

Aghh, these words are so difficult to pronounce. I gave up on 'sid-ucks' and just say 'sid-icks'. These guys should keep in mind that some people actually use this thing called the mouth to talk every once in a while.

I sent an email to the author explaining why mp3 support comes out of the box and the fact that smxi and extras exist to help people with their multimedia issues.

And did you mention the IRC plus this forum, Dutchy? These 2 places are the best resources for new sidux users as well as the fine sidux manual Smile

What a well written review. It stands alone rather than compare it to another distro, only within itself. Well done. Good read overall even if most of it went over my head.

Although, no mention of the official fangirl ? d'aww. Guess I'll have to just stay famous here Smile

Great review once he fixed the bad info about using adept in a gui for updating. How many more "Use only apt" threads will that generate?

NOt a bad review, although I didn't get why he had to add java manually a simple apt-get install would have taken care of it nicely. Perhaps sidux stance of following Debian's Policy needs to be stated a little more clearly, especially concerning the use of 'free' and "non-free" packages.

adept is even worse than synaptic at least synaptic isn't still in beta.

maybe java should have its own non-free metapackage?

DeepDayze: I wrote him an email about the adept problem. He will add that in his next review. He will also take a look into the forum and irc next time Wink
