I think the second review is going to have problems in the future since they went away from apt-get.

Adept and synaptic? I think that's the WORST you can do for sidux...

On the Desktop is an icon called "sidux manual", that contains some installation and usage instructions. Typically I plunge ahead and immediately begin the installation, but I'm not familiar with the Debian way of doing things. So, I launch this manual, and take about 10 minutes to read parts of it.

Maybe there should be a hint about graphical installers (and some other important stuff like smxi, d-u in init 5, etc.) in huge red bold letters at the beginning of the manual.

I know, everything can be found in the manual, but I think, as one can see in this review, this would reduce the number newbie questions/errors significantly.

I have added them both to our Reviews Collection. Next time you stumble upon a good review, please add it there yourself.

Personally I found the "Closer Look" well written and interesting, it explains more about sidux's advantages than most other reviews I have seen.

Greetings,
Chris

Well eco2geek wrote the "closer look" review so its hardly going to be very critical Wink The other article shows the differences in user habits (sidux user Vs non-sidux user). The way he cant hardly work without a gui package manager, not knowing about *censored* debian sources etc- these issues need to be drummed into new users somehow.

Maybe we should expand slam's whysidux article on the main site:
- have it placed more eye-catchingly (scary term I've coined)
- extend its $(up-to-date and secure) by $(free-as-in-speech including its drawbacks and workarounds provided) and $(whatever-somebody-else-comes-up-with)
- reduce the screen real estate the news section uses - the news cater to the already-involved-in-sidux, not to innocent passersby on their first visit to the site

severin,

Very good idea. I second the news not taking such a prominent role in the home page.

Perhaps just making the "New to sidux" a little bit bigger.
