After installing sidux GAIA from live-cd (august) I tried to get the data from the secondary windows-hd (hda1 / hda5) .... - no way.
I got this error message:
kio_media_mounthelper hal_storage_fixed_mount_all_options refused uid 1000
Uid 1000 it's me as user. Ok. Accepted
But, this -rebuildfstab- I found here will not work the way I've expected - and after this big change to UUIDxxxx inside the fstab I see no way for me to repair it with my fingertips .....
The former KANOTIX 2005-4 I still live with - and with NO big problems since months - seems to be the better choice at this very moment .....???
Why the hack you've made this ???
-Earlier times is sounds: just for confusing the Russians- .....!!!
Have a nice day and a good hint for me,
WOLFGANG |

| Rebuildfstab's not meant to be used as a fix-it tool for a "broken" fstab. Why not post your fstab? |

Did you use UUID?
Code:
rebuildfstab -wUm
This writes the fstab, uses UUID, and makes mount directories if they don't exist. |

didn't you understand?

No, "it works(TM) you know what you're doing in the first place and edit every single entry until it fits" is not a valid answer. |

confusion here, because since the second latest kernel hdxx came back to me. I got 2 ide on primary master 1 dvd on secondary master and 2 sata
1. does this mean a change in disk drivers?
2. still cannot solve the problem with my swap partition. I have to add it manually in fstab, which works for now.
fdisk -l shows

Here the actual data from the system - direct after an installation from a better performing
ISO-CD (fstab values in -old-fashioned-style !!):
fstab -l
Disk /dev/hda: 80.0 GB, 80026361856 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 9729 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0xed51ed51
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hda1 * 1 3406 27358663+ 7 HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2 3407 9729 50789497+ f W95 Ext'd (LBA)
/dev/hda5 3407 9729 50789466 b W95 FAT32
Disk /dev/hdc: 20.5 GB, 20547841536 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 2498 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x146b146a
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System
/dev/hdc1 1 2371 19045026 83 Linux
/dev/hdc2 2372 2498 1020127+ 82 Linux swap / Solaris
HDA - Master IDE0 (Windows) / HDC - Master IDE1 (sidux)
cat fstab
# /etc/fstab: static file system information
#
# <filesystem> <mountpoint> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
# added by rebuildfstab [/dev/hdc1, no label]
UUID=7b8cbfee-9e29-47b9-95aa-8d4d3eb0787e / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro,noatime 0 1
# added by rebuildfstab [/dev/hdc2, no label]
UUID=9d17f256-72e5-4e04-a2a7-57b82b5f4a61 none swap sw 0 2
# added by rebuildfstab [CRD-8482B_19991025]
/dev/cdrom /media/cdrom udf,iso9660 user,noauto 0 0
# added by rebuildfstab
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy0 auto rw,user,noauto 0 0
- rebuildfstab is no longer available after 1 try !? (as root of course)
- fd0 is NOT seen as an accessable media ??
- an usb-stick is running well
Hint:
During the installation the HDA was completely disconnected, because GRUB wrotes itself to the MBR on HDA and
the windows-system was no longer bootable !! - And sidux either not !!! Repeatable .....
Afterwards the HDA is seen, but not accessable / mountable .... THAT's the problem because of the changes
with the fstab (UUID's).
->>Any real solvings ????
