I'm not sure if this is something that has changed with the forum or yet another iceweasel niggle.
For as long as I can remember, I have always been automatically been logged on when I visit these forums but in the last few days it isn't happening anymore.
I have to log in each time and every time I check the remember me box but it isn't remembering me
Am I not important enough to be worth remembering?
I'm sort of thinking it's a forum issue as I haven't been recieving email notifications (just occasionally) as I also always had previously. |

@shame, check your cookie settings and maybe delete all the sidux ones to get a fresh set on login next time

mmm, not got the problem here with latest iceweasel and cookies allowed till they expire. Tho I have had periods of time when this behaviour has existed for a few days then been ok, not always fixed by anything I do/install. As usual with iceweasel it could be extensions conflicting in some way you could selectivly disable them and check...

I've been using the same extensions (very few) for several months with no changes.
I have tried installing cookie-culler extension and set it to protect sidux cookies but even when it says the are protected and there are no new ones it isn't always keeping me logged in. |

I maybe totally 360' off beam with this comment, so forgive in advance,
The way the forum is set up , should be a manual 'log in',, as this stops spammers and other nefarious activities from happening and the like: for example, auto generating spam links and sometimes posting absolute tripe
The forums also have an auto time out, which is longer than typical, to allow detailed explanations and fixes. |

I switched to using Iceweasel for this forum and all works as it's supposed to. I have no idea why, but who cares as long as it works.
As for having to log in each time, as bluewater suggests, I vote no. If one has the cookie, it should be good enough as each cookie is different. Sure, if I want to log in from another computer, by all means ask me for the password, but not from this computer that I use daily to access the forum. That would get old very fast, and although I could have Iceweasel (or konqeror) remember the password, it's still one more screen I have to go through. |

Still acting up for me. With absolutely no changes whatsover to iceweasel, I am being auto logged sometimes and not others.
It's completely random.
Also, I'm not getting this with any other websites, only this one. |

| I'm having the same problem. I've made no changes in Iceweasel and it's only this site. Not random here though - auto login isn't working at all. |

I can confirm this problem. It is very inconsistent.
Sometimes I have to manually login, then it'll generate a new cookie and everything will work for a few days, then poof it doesn't recognize me anymore. so, rinse repeat. |

PostNuke & PNphpBB2 are using a quite extensive security system, which also relates to Cookies and sessions. Our settings here at the moment are:
Users stay logged-in for: 14 days
Users become inactive after having been idle for: 30 minutes
Forum session length: 60 minutes
Those values are a balanced compromise between ease of usage for our visitors and necessary security measures. If you always use the same 2nd/3rd leve domain as entry point, and your cookies are not damaged or deleted by your browser settings (resp. buggy browser extensions) you need to re-login just every 14 days.
If you are logged out before, either your cookies have gone for some reason out of our reach, or you probably used a different entry point asking for new cookies (www.sidux.com != sidux.com; sidux.de != sidux.com; ONLY http://sidux.com is the proper entry point). In very rare cases a proxy server somewhere between your machine and our web server might be conflicting, too.
Greetings,
Chris |
