I've decided to try my hand at a comic strip. I'd like to thank Severin for giving me the idea and roughnecks of course for the webspace. All people have been drawn by hand with inkscape. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
So without further ado, here's the first installment.
*ps: This could become a regular thing if it's received well |

Hehe
He does not even consider removing DRM when he is asked and urged by independent music labels. But luckily they up their stuff to better quality portals as well, so I can buy independent stuff now through internet as well.

Nice work
The art looks great, content is ok but needs to be ... clearer I think. Punctuation and grammar could do with some reviewing in this particular frame.
Reminds me of a nerdy version of redmeat for some reason |

Well done Cathbard, very nice work. Though maybe you should have a look at this bloke so you know just how mean that kind of stuff can get (some of his work is "very UK" - and without following UK politics, might not make sense, but this is pretty self explainatory).
Go on my son, get mean! The most excellent people of "down under" are famed for their honesty and plain speaking. The harsher the better, given your chosen subjects.
Keep up the excellent work.
regards

Thanks fatbloke. I guess when a country is started by (mostly) falsely imprisoned convicts that were put to work as slaves it generates a people that don't suffer bs quietly.
Our comedians don't hide who they are hanging it on behind make believe names, they normally come right out and say it, corporate logos and all. It's practically impossible to sue a comedian/cartoonist over here. That doesn't seem to be the case in a lot of the world. I have to say, we have problems too but I wouldn't live anywhere else.
My target audience is pretty small and geeky so I'll never be mainstream but as long as my fellow linux geeks appreciate it I'll keep making them. Don't fear, I predict plenty of mean comics at times in the future if I feel it's appropriate or funny. I haven't even started on SCO yet. |

Falsely accused ? Never. "We" all know that most of "you lot" were only "transported" for very heinous crimes. Like stealing bread. What where those ancestral types anyway? hungry or something ?

Well it seems to me, that the historical english establishment actually did a favour to a considerable number of good people. Plus no, most cartoonists (Steve Bell being an excellent example) find it hard to get sued - it has to be libelous and even then, english libel laws are only for the rich. As for Aussie comedians, yes I have also enjoyed Kevin Wilson (among others - seen "live" when they can get over here). In the words of "Bill and Ted" - most excellent.

Excellent, l look forward to them.
What was actually "going through my mind" was that I wondered if your artistic skills stretched to caricature? because I alway think that cartoons, especially ones of a sudo political type, are best suited to caricature. Keeping just enough of the persons real look soas to identify who it is that is being lampooned.
Of course, within the world of linux and/or IT it may be that the person isn't actually well known from an image/pictorial POV but those who are, Gates, Jobs, et al, surely it's "worth the dig" ?
Dunno if the idea is worth anything though, it's just that I've been looking at Steve Bells work for some years and have always found it most amusing.
Keep up the good works though, it's damned good stuff.

I had a look through some of Steve Bell's work. Very funny.
Britain and Australian do seem to be very similar when it comes to what they let their comedians get away with. It's the fine old tradition of the court jester I guess. The jester did more than make the king laugh, he pointed out faults that nobody else would dare utter. He didn't set policy or always reveal deeply philosophical "truths", but he made people think. It's heartening that such things still continue unabated in much of the world.
I may not be so important myself (I'm not even trying to be) but as the Irish say, "You gotta laugh. It's either that or cry." If I can make a few people smile on this broken rock of a planet then that is enough for this little existentialist ant.
PS: That musta been some pretty amazing bread ay? |
