| kpowersave is I believe on by default, and does cpu frequency scaling out of the box. At least I think it does, when it's supported. |

kpowersave is a gui app, so you don't need to start it in terminal unless you really like doing it that way. Once started you can configure it, but with kde session saver, it will always start up automatically, I think it already does, check the system tray to make sure.
you can also double check to see that powersaved is running and starting up as expected using rcconf or sysv-rc-conf |

I also followed that howto but found no matter how I set it, it was always set to powersave after rebooting (I wanted to compare with the performance setting).
So I went back to good old kpowersave and it works exactly as it should. |

I've got to reactivate this old thread...
I fail completely at activating cpu scaling on my Core 2 Duo (E6600).
KPowerSave says that cpu frequency scaling isn't supported..
"modprobe speedstep-centrino" as mentioned in that Ubuntu thread tells me that no such module exists.
"modprobe acpi-cpufreq" gives
FATAL: Error inserting acpi_cpufreq (/lib/modules/2.6.22.7-slh-smp-1/kernel/arch/i386/kernel/cpu/cpufreq/acpi-cpufreq.ko): No such device
Ideas anyone? |

The sidux Wiki is free to use and edit by and for all sidux users.
We hope for contributions from Linux users of all knowledge levels, since this wiki is intended to help users of all levels. The few minutes you donate to our wiki can save other users (and maybe yourself) in need of solutions, hours of trouble and searching.
So i guess the wiki entry is up to those who 'can do',, heh
BTW: If its found that a wiki or forum topic has merit and importance to be included to the manual, its gets added.
Examples of this recently are sux, ndiswrapper-advanced and kio-apt |
