ok, workaround for 2.6.22 kernels and vmware:
1) download http://knihovny.cvut.cz/ftp/pub/vmware/ ... 110.tar.gz
2) unzip
3) note: the "runme.pl" script throws an error message for me, saying i run a unkown version of vmware (my version: 6)
if the any-any update works for you, continue with "vmware-config.pl"
4) copy the file "vmnet.tar" from the any-any-update110 to "/usr/lib/vmware/modules/source/" (overwrite existing vmnet.tar!)
5) run "vmware-config.pl"
6) everyting should work fine.
my kernel: 2.6.22-rc6-git1-slh-smp-1 |

h2 did the d-u and new kernel and ran the command you gave me, seems anything above 2.6.20 shows my drives/parttions as sda and not as hda like it should.
Other than showing the drives wrong everything else seems to run just fine,.

My one and only drive is a IDE drive, the 2.6.18 kernel and things like gparted show it as hda which is what it has always been.
Kernels newer than 2.6.20 all show it as sda, not really a big deal since everything works, its just strange. |

Yes th new 2.6.22 rc6-git4 is working wonderfully, fast boot too. Yes the vmware-config.pl does complain during vmnet module compilation, so i found a patch, couldn't apply it, so I just coded about 5 files according to the patch, a fun 5 hours resulting in complete success , no I didn't find that replacement vmnet.tar prior until checkting this thread , but I had fun nonetheless good job sidux, h2 and slh. My #1 recommendation distro/customization to the few at least able to handle dealing with your sm script |

Btw, I casually read that 2.6.22 should improve the management of Hauppauge dvb tuners, as the firm should have provided some feedback to those v4l guys.
Does anybody of you, trying the rc, have a Hauppauge dvb-t and tried its performance? Especially in tuning and channel searching?

| @nihilistic: due to the new libata, your cdrom should be identified by /dev/sdX rather than /dev/hdX. Check the fstab entry for your cd drive. |

You probably need to fix your /etc/fstab with /dev/cdrom instead of /dev/hdX - or remove the entry alltogether and use udev/ hal, eventually "rm /etc/udev/rules.d/z25_persistent-cd.rules" and reboot first.

Just tried the kernel upgrade, and followed the process to install the rt2500 module from the kernel zip.
Something isn't right with the wifi side, though - the card will work in Kismet (and finds my network) but when set up to connect to the network, pings return 'Destination host unreachable'.
iwconfig returns no essid, even after manually resetting the essid; the power light on the card is on but the transmit light isn't. Restarting networking has no effect.
lsmod confirms that the module is loaded.
I've found a thread on a French Gentoo forum indicating that other people have also been having trouble with the RT2500 card and this kernel, with some parameters not being set correctly, so it's not just me!
Everything else is fine, booting noticeably faster (though failed initially - I have boot=/dev/hda in my kopts and this needed changing to /dev/sda before the boot process would run properly). For the moment I'm back to 2.6.21 as default, though, so that I can use wireless. |
