caz, I grin, and also thank you

The search function is a real problem without invoking an online solution ( and therefore connected to the internet), and that is not what is needed,, it needs to search the 40+ files for key words, and/or the usual +- , AND needs to be able to do the search of the manual , with one key assumption,, ' you are not connected to the internet'

There have been suggestions of methods available, for off-line searches, however we are not thickly spread to develop the ideas in a vacuum, if the ideas are developed at all.

Meanwhile, I will not give up, and so your input is valuable

hello bluewater,
thanks for your comment. I cannot provide an offline solution, but I have some questions about your posting:

What do you mean with keywords? Is there a list of important items somewhere or do you simply mean the words filled in a search-form by a user?
What do you mean with vacuum? No developers available or the ideas/requirements are not elaborated?

A 'simple' solution like a interface/wrapper around grep will obviously not succeed as important words seem to occur in the menu-part of the html-files.
Code:
cas@gigo:/usr/share/sidux-manual/de$ grep -l 'usb' *
results in 41 of existing 42 files, which doesnt help very much further. Confused

regards, cas

slh's post http://sidux.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB ... 8047#68047
and "There is ReiserFs, Ext3, and for experienced users XFS and JFS. " in http://manual.sidux.com/en/part-cfdisk-en.htm#formating
seem to be in contradiction. though not really wrong, it might be misleading as one can understand it as implicit recommendation. XFS is also in the screenshots.

"ReiserFS" should be stated more precisely to reiser3.whatever and XFS shouldnt be mentioned, if not warned, concerning slh's opinion.

regards, cas

"reiser3" does not exist and never did, it was called "reiserfs 3.6" in contrast to "reiser4"; given about its unclear maintenance status it cannot be recommended either, even though it still kind of "works".

Not if one reads more than the third sentence:
Quote:
A partition must have a filesystem. Linux knows different filesystems to use. There is ReiserFs, Ext3, and for experienced users XFS and JFS. Ext2 is handy as a storage format since a windows driver is available for data-swapping.

For normal use we recommend the ext3 file system, it is the default file system for sidux and is well maintained.

would be possible to add links to siduxcc in manual on following places:

http://manual.sidux.com/en/sys-admin-ge ... t-services
http://manual.sidux.com/en/sys-admin-ke ... rn-upgrade
http://manual.sidux.com/en/hw-dev-hw-dr ... m#non-free

In the chapter "Screen Resolutions and Monitors" it would be good if you would add that it's also possible to change the resolution with the kde part of siduxcc.
