Post subject: Need full Canon NP610 functions  PostPosted: Nov 13, 2007 - 07:29 PM

Hi,
It seems that the CUPS connection for my usb Canon NP610 does not give the full functionality of the Windows driver. This is something I need so, two questions please;

1) Are there Linux drivers for the PIXMA NP600 series which match exactly the functions on the WIN drivers?

2) If not, is it possible to get usb support on Virtualbox (OSE) so that I can use the Windows driver easily on the odd occasion I need it?

Thanks

Andy

Hi newuseruk,

you can download printer drivers for the MP610 from www.turboprint.info . In order to use all of the functionality of this printer driver you will have to spend EUR 29.95.

Unfortunately there is no support for the scanner right now. Canon released drivers for the MP600 a couple of months ago. As long as the SANE project does not release open source drivers for this particular MFP we can only hope that it does not take Canon too long to develop drivers on their own.

I have not tried a virtual machine yet, because my computer is way too slow. I intend to give Virtualbox a try with my new computer (still waiting for the Core 2 Quad Q6450, though).

Hope this helps

you need to get the non-free virtualbox as the OSE version of virtualbox does NOT have USB support at this time. To install the non-free version of vbox you can use smxi
