Hi,
I was making an experiment, remastering the ISO of Tartaros after adding some stuff inside (just a couple of folders). I in fact understood that, when I want to install it on new machines, it's soooo comfortable having already all my config files in specific folders of the CD. Copying them after a HD install is just matter of seconds.
I tried using ACETONEISO which rewrote everything but....
....the boot sequence stopped at:
"GRUB stage 1.5"
What did I do wrong? In acetoneiso I tried to preserve the original boot block.
Any clues??? |

Forget "ace-something" - sidux is not mastered in such trivial way. You might want to follow the user based discussion about re-mastering here: http://sidux.com/index.php?module=Wikula&tag=LiveCDRemastering. However, the sidux dev team strongly recommends to stay away from re-mastering.
The better and proper way is doing your own master - make yourself familiar with the official sidux mastering scripts in our SVN.
Greetings,

First of all thanks.
Then, I noticed that the process should more or less be:
1. putting all the stuff from the iso in a custom folder
2. unsquashing the baby
3. modifying stuff / creating configs
4. resquashing da babe
5. generating the bootable iso with genisoimage
And I get that this is the correct way to do it....
What I can't get is the following: considering that I don't need to tamper with the squashed file and that I'd just like to add a couple of folders to the iso root directory (folders whose contents that I'd like to use AFTER that the distro has been installed on the HD just by normally mounting the CD), I just cannot figure out why in the world isn't it possible to do this with programs that just enlarge the iso a bit without corrupting my boot sequence. What is your technical opinion about this?
Anyway, following your advice, the workaround could be maybe doing step 1, then copying my stuff directly to the custom folder then doing step 5. Does this sound correct? |
