If your system is based on sid replace etch by sid or unstable.
Keeping etch leaves your system stable by the time etch is released.

PS: for multimedia questions please join IRC #sidux (button left in menu). Due to legal reasons we cannot answer very many questions here about codecs and stuff like that. You might want to edit that link as well, because this is no private support forum, but a vendor's support forum (different rules and laws apply). |

Adobe flash is in Debian non-free, no need to grab it from any where else.
If you need other media players or codec, then yes the multimedia repo is the one to use, just make sure you use the Sid one and not Etch. |

Flashplayer is now in Debian proper, make sure you have non-free contrib after main in your debian sources, then:
apt-get update
apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
so your debian sources would look like this:
deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian unstable main contrib non-free
Please avoid using etch testing sources as primary sources for sidux, the results may be very unpleasant over time.
It's always good to have testing sources in addition to sid/unstable however because sometimes we need to use a package from testing to create a temporary fix.
I'm almost done with the new package install section of du-fixes, that will offer easy package install for office suites, desktops, non-free software like flash, and general utilities. |

I don't agree here at all!
There is no "fix" in Testing for Sid users - the real fixes might be in incoming or experimental, however. And the best fix always is not to dist-upgrade before being sure everything will work afterwards. Leave those daily dist-upgrade games to the folks over here who test every day for everybody else, and who provide the fixes for you.
You can safely delete the Testing lines from your /etc/sources.list - you will definitely never need them.
Greetings,
Chris |

So this has changed from kanotix, ok, that's good to know. We reverted to testing for fixes reasonably often last year, I guess that will be handled by the sidux repos now.
The testing reversion was never very reliable, since you never really knew how long that package would stay in testing before being replaced by the possibly broken sid one anyway. So probably best to dump it. |

All it takes is watching what dist-upgrade is going to do to keep from having problem.
Experimental especially with Etch/sid frozen is a relatively safe. I have been using Gaim and Amarok from there for a while with no issues. |

What about using the testing repos for certain media players?
Also, is everything that is in testing also in sid? |
