The error usually comes about with mismatched versions of ccsm/libcompizconfig/compizconfig-python.
Have you used any other repo at any time that could have resulted in mixed packages? |

Hey² it is possible to install emerald on 64 bit system?
cause i get this answer:
Code:
apt-get install emerald
Paketlisten werden gelesen... Fertig
Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut
Reading state information... Fertig
E: Kaputte Pakete
If it is possible, what i do wrong?
before this i just install beryl like this:
Code:
apt-get install beryl-plugins-shame
Or there is another way to change the themes?
THX for Help |

| idk about beryl in a 64bits system, but at least compiz does work. I'm guessing you installed beryl because that's what you found in the first post of this thread, it needs to be updated. Meanwhile, go to http://shame.tuxfamily.org/repo/?cat=11 where you can read all the steps you need to do, like update the repo. When you install compiz all the packages of beryl will be removed, so you dont have to worry about that |

I can't actually remember if emerald is a dependency of beryl-plugins-shame or not so you may need to apt-get install emerald as well.
I'm not actually sure if beryl's emerald will work with sidux as it's built against an older version of libwnck.
Compiz fusion's emerald works well with beryl though (or it did last time I tried).
It is probably better to install compiz fusion actually, it has much fancier effects and I find it much more stable, unless you have a particular reason for choosing beryl...
Also, I'm not sure just how much longer beryl will keep working since it will never be updated again. |

Not sure if anyone is aware, but certain compiz fusion components are now in the official Sid repos...
Some stuff missing though, such as fusion-icon and more importantly, CCSM |

Well whatever happens in Sid I will be keeping the unstable git repo going and I may switch my stable repo to a "supplemental" one, which contains things like unofficial plugins, fusion-icon and CCSM which will be compatible with the Sid packages.
I will be looking into things more when I get a bit of time. |

| That's a good idea...if you can build fusion-icon and ccsm packages to MATCH the sid package versions then that's nice. |

Yeah, I've been meaning to update the thread or start a new one as a one for all knowledge base for beryl and compiz fusion related stuff but I've had so little time over the past 2 or 3 months, a lot of my plans have gone by the wayside.
Things are looking up a bit now though and I just need to do a bit of rearranging of my repos to take into account the official stuff and hope to do the thread sometime this week.
Although I had planned to make packages compatible with the official Sid repos, almost everything is now there already so the "add-on" repo idea is pretty pointless now.
I will be keeping the unstable one running for anyone who wants more up to date stuff or extra plugins. |

I've had a small problem with compiz-fusion for quite a long time. I can overcome it easily, but it's a bit of a nuisance every time I boot.
On boot, up comes KDE, then yakuake, then compiz-fusion with either one, or 16 desktops on the pager. I can fix it by going into Configure desktops, which always starts showing 4 in the box and switching back to one desktop. Then I have the normal pager with 4 desktops working perfectly.
I've tried setting C-f onto various numbers of desktops from 1-4 in combination with setting KDE on from 1-4 desktops in various combinations, but I get various effects in the pager from 1 to 16 desktops showing. However I set KDE, it always reverts to 4 desktops in the Configure desktops box on boot.
The best solution seems to set c-f to 4 desktops, let KDE boot with its 4 desktops, then after booting, when the pager shows 16 desktops, simply use Configure desktops to reset KDE back from 4 to 1 desktop. After that, everything works perfectly, with one 4-sided cube represented by 4 desktops on the pager.
It this problem has been covered elsewhere, I'm sorry. I can't find it. |

If using a regular cube desktop the settings should be like this:
CCSM > General Options > Desktop Size
- Horizontal Virtual Size 4
- Vertical Virtual Size 1
- Number of Desktops 1
And in KDE's Multiple Desktops settings, Number of Desktops should be set to 1.
Let me know if that makes any difference.
It's a strange problem as I read plenty of reports of the same problems while others have no trouble at all.
Having compiz start from an xsession MAY help if the above doesn't. |
