Hi,
I wonder if KDE3.5.10 appearing in unstable?
So far not impressed with KDE4, as someone said a bump in the road.
The 3.5.x series are much simpler and more transparent, and as far as menus go
simple is best.
Just curious about 3.5.10, not much different to 3.5.9 though.
Best

I've heard that it will not appear in the Unstable-Branch.

@ElZorro: over at debianforum.de some guy from the KDE packaging team explained (unfortunately in german), that the packages in lenny (hence at this time: the ones in sid) are almost 3.5.10; they rebuilt them from svn, but didn't dare to change the version number

Take a look at apt-cache policy kedit, kbattleship (how did that get in there?), kdegames, kpgp, superkaramba, etc. 3.5.10 has parts here in sid. Kde4 also has pieces here (ex. kdelibs*).
If you want to keep 3.5.9/10, put up a Debian/testing install like I did. I keep this in case KDE4 comes in before it's mature. It may all be in vain though, I think the sidux devs will make the right decision about holding kde if kde4 comes to sid in its present state.
What I'm really hoping? Lenny takes longer to become stable (keeping kde4 in experimental), kde 4.2 is released with much of the functionality of 3.5.9.

Well, I can hope can't I?

Tom

AFAIK KDE 4.2 is scheduled for January 2009, let us see if lenny makes it earlier...

"let us see if lenny makes it earlier."

Just for curiosity - and I am not asking when it is finished *g* - Is there a more or less official date, to which the debian teams aims (and sidux get tons of new packages). Like a roadmap to lenny. I know, that they usually wit until they are under 100 Bugs, but maybe there is also a aimed date, like Xmas?

Just curios. Smile

Thanks

@spacepenguin: http://www.debianforum.de/forum/viewtop ... =a#p645058

@ModestUser: *no* newer package versions will enter testing - that's the entire point of freezing a distro to iron out the *remaining* bugs instead of accepting new ones

@Lanzi: the official date was september 08, now (according *not* to the release team, but iirc the debian project leader) it's october 08. Usually they wait until they are under 1 RC bug; monitor debian-devel-announce for release updates

@severin: you missed my point, KDE 4.2 is very likely to be released in January, but it will not hit sid until debian is released. The questions was if lenny would be released before January.

@Lanzi - you can watch the bugs and apps come and go at the oftc #debian-devel-changes IRC channel. I'm still hoping Lenny will be released later than sooner. I've got a perfect home network running sidux and kde 4.1 will make it less than perfect. Kde4.2? who knows. We can put kde 3.5.9 on hold only for so long in Sid. That's why I don't mind waiting.
