UPDATE

Hold on upgrading to 1.6.4 for a few days. They left a debugging routine activated by mistake and it's creating multi-megabyte log files. Rolling Eyes

edit: a workaround is

Note: Unfortunately a bug slipped in which can cause a large amount of logging data to be written to your home directory. You can workaround this by making sure you have VBOX_LOG_DEST=nofile in your environment variables.

svmi 1.7.0, updated to handle new non ose packages.

Updated to offer lenny or etch, updated to offer 1.6.0-1.6.6 packages.

Updated to handle new guest additions package iso download.

Glad I waited and did nothing on this one, took a while to get the old stuff, so all you usb using non-ose vbox users, upgrades now automatic.

I should also mention that sun has debian repos too, but personally, I'm not a fan of virtual machines upgraded via du, I need my stuff to always work.

hello h2,
tried to upgrade my vbox with smxi on 2 sidux boxes, got 2 times the same problem see here:
Code:

libicu38 is already the newest version.
Package libxerces27 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libxerces27 has no installation candidate
ERROR: (200) The package: libicu38 failed to install, please check apt for any problems.

Log file is located here: /var/log/svmi.log
Exiting script now.

Any idea ?

Thanks very much for your great work!

a few bugs fixed, fixed download url oddity, fixed missing dependency stuff, install is now working I think, at least so far.

Sun fooled me, I though this was a straight download, but it redirects and changes the download url, so i had to modify that part.

I'm especially interested to see if there are any dependency issues on a fresh install, by the way.

virtualbox installation with smxi worked now for the non-ose version with the etch-deb. But still some problem with the installation of the addons., don't know if this has something to do with the sun download server or the script ?

Code:

Saving to: `VBoxGuestAdditions_1.6.6.iso?e=1220516204&h=1c51fb229218dc18b23d7687e78f1e95'

100%[======================================>] 10,094,592   337K/s   in 29s

2008-09-04 10:12:14 (336 KB/s) - `VBoxGuestAdditions_1.6.6.iso?e=1220516204&h=1c51fb229218dc18b23d7687e78f1e95' saved [10094592/10094592]

Sorry, the download failed for some reason, let's find out why.

Thanks h2 for the very quick fix as always.

Hi slam

Does this install a second version of virtualbox or does the 1.6 version get deleted? Does it find existing vdi's?

drb

[EDIT - Answer - yes, virtualbox is removed and virtualbox-2.0 is then installed and existing .vdi files found]

wora495, thanks, I forgot to check the addons download, sun is doing some fancy redirects there too, I'll have that fixed soon.

Re other questions, svmi always removes any installed instances of vbox, whether ose or non ose, when it it installs a new one.
