i have to admit to not liking the scorpion so much, but that has to do with scorpions in the toilet and shoes being a real problem around here (and the little innocuous looking ones are the ones that can do you real damage). the first time he was bouncing around on my puterscreen i was looking for a shoe (heel) to deal with him with.
maybe you could license his cousin to Microsoft to use as their mascot, only remove the tail, give him bigger sucking mouthparts, and he can be their tick trying to steal/draw blood out of the World's arse. |

see here's what i'm seein (can't make it happen caus i kno nothin about animation):
this fat, grotesque, blood engorged female tick (can't be a male caus they stay little and nimble and don't GORGE on blood), this grotesquely engorged fat female tick, with bgIII's milquetoast-in-wireframed-glasses face on it, and the omnipresent four-paned demonlogo plastered across its blood-engorged ass, this fat tick comes draggin its carcass across the sidewalk out of a Starbuks (might as well smash two megacapitalist maggotts with one stone/scorpion).
and here comes Fr(a umlaut)d to save the day/exact retribution! the scorpion could wear a cape, like Mighty Mouse when he comes skitterin up the sidewalk. and then he grabs bgIII/fattick by the ears and drags him around/abuses him a little.
bgIII/fattick of course begins to protest, sqeal like a pig, "Oh, oh. please don't hurt me! I'm just a harmless computer geek who wants to bring silicon-based enlightenment to the World's ignorant masses." and then Frad says (i believe in MightyMouse type English with a Berlin accent would be best), and Frad says, "No, you're the biggest thief history has ever known. You expect people in the developing world to fork over one or two or sixmonth's wages for a crappy program whos development was paid for eons ago. Worse than that, with your coercion-is-good business model, you've stolen money from every human on the planet. Even some Pygmy in the middle of nowhere in Equatorial Africa, when his taxman comes around every year or two to grab a coupla goats and stalks of bananas, if it was up to you, you'd be getting your slice. So take this, and THIS, and THIS! you blackhearted TICK-IN-GEEK'S-CLOTHING. This is for the widows and orphans and crippled deaf children who have been victimized by your predatory pricing and business practices. This is for all of us!"
and then Fr(a umlaut)d stings bgIII multiple times in the top of the head till fattick's eyes pop out, and then tosses the grotesque tick body into the gutter, demonlogo side up, where a bus runs over it and pops it like a frog.
the end. |

glad you enjoyed it.
i'm just trying to do my part to keep The Good Ship sidux a happy ship.
there's nothing more important to the freedom of humanity than free software, and sidux is the point of the spear. |

| Not really fond of the scorpion, or any of the decorations since gaia. One of these days I'll dig for that again. |

not a fan of Fred tbh, I don't have any problem with the idea of a scorpion, but the grinning evil cartoony style just turns me off, it looks like something from the 15 year olds' T-Shirts Clearance rack at Target (sorry, as the creator's skills in actually creating the logo are amazing - I just don't like the direction he took the style in).
Se7en's idea of the tail mimicking Debian's swirl could be expanded on perhaps, when I get a chance I'll screw around on Inkscape... I was heavily impressed by the Ouranos artwork btw. |

I have a little gripe about how the artwork is applied. I'm running xfce, so this is what I did to update to the current theme:
Code:
apt-get install sidux-art-xfce-momos sidux-art-xsplash-momos sidux-art-wallpaper-momos gfxboot-theme-sidux-2009-03-momos
Reading package lists... Done
Then I had to go to the various settings, including login, splash, and wallpaper to change each individually to the current (momos) images. All this is reasonably easy to do, but you have to know what you are doing and where to look for the images.
What I'm suggesting is that the version artwork be called something like: sidux-art-xfce-current or sidux-art-kde-current and that grub, login, splash, wallpaper be all part of one package, or built as a dependency of the current theme.
This would allow those of us who want the current theme to have it automatically installed when released, and archive artwork could also be made available as it currently is. Such a change would make the artwork part of the rolling release instead of a user option that has to be manually upgraded.
I'm interested in others thoughts regarding this suggestion.

| I like the scorpion. It is unique and is somewhat aggressive-looking which is something that many logos do not have. That's just me though. |

Where can I post a scorpion photo to you all see the real meaning of this awfull beast? (not good for less aged, the photo, as the sco.)
Really, I'm thinking seriously in abandon Siduzzzzzzzz because of that crab. And I'm not joking. Scorpions are the best partners of snakes in treacherous arts, a sad inspiration for human's behaviour, a beast from the cracks.
But, as I suspect, for europeans the "escorpião" doesn't exist out of the horoscope. It appears to you only as an idilic image of stars in conjunction, too subtle to perceive its nocturnal habits, too far to taste the effects of its fatal poison.
(Another more realistic feature of the scos, if somebody think i'm being crazy: the first time I saw this crab as sidux logo, beetwen all that bloody reds, it was at the time an incredible war happened (sorry to remember!). As a thunder passing on my mind, that was too obvious : a treason situation was acting on sidouz. But, as commanded by the scorpion behaviour, nobody said this word, nobody even touched on it... Only the stars, whispering: shshssshssshs... )
Maybe, at the day some scorpion go for a walk in his/her pillow, the sid-artists will undestand what I'm saying?
Please, please, please! Artists: change this logo quickly!

| I think it's just important to find a unique logo and stick with it. If you don't like the logo then don't use the splash screen/wallpaper/etc. Changing logos over and over isn't very healthy for recognition's sake. You don't see Nike changing the swoosh just to be cool do you? The scorpion is different, and it's identifiable with sidux. To me, that is all that matters. |
