After a lot of research I have come to the following conclusions.
1) My HD is in perfect health.
2) sata_via detects the HD and its partitions with no problems.
3) There must be a bug in the sata_via or a component of it because writing on ithe HD is impossible at this time.
What logs do you need to help prove it(ie gparted error logs, lspci?) and where do you report it to?
