| You probably want to use update-alternatives. Okay, will look into it. |

| Sorry, wasn't meant to be provocative, but I really thought you did it deliberately ... and therefore it was serious question. If I would have been sure this is a bug, I wouldn't have asked. |

The title seemed to assume we deliberately made this change, even though there is overwhelming opinion that vim is unsuitable as a "first time users" command line editor. This simply wasn't the case.
So a good title would be: "when mc is installed, mcedit should be default editor". It would invoke objective responses, not defensive or critical ones. |

i dont believe at all that "first time users" are going to use mc
at the end mcedit is a rather limited editor and do not deserve to be the main alternative as editor. *my 2cents* |

| Thanks for this statement, I fully agree. Would be really nice to reinclude nano to the lite version, too. |

ok, reverted the above changed and fixed it differently:
* mc uses its own editor
* global editor is chosen automatically via the alternatives priority system as it always was
I disagree with bloating kde-lit profile with extra duplicity, therefore like nano where it is. |

One annotation:
specialy the lite version is very usefull for maintance purposes. And for those administrativ works everybody likes to use _his_ cl-editor. The less a user is skilled, the more he needs his editor. Although in general I agree with all efforts to keep the lite version _lite_, I think it is reasonable and justifiable to include several cl-editors, i.e. those which are most requested.
Sure, every user is free to look for a live cd with his preferred utilities. But the average user is happy to understand the functionality of one, his _prefered_ live-cd. I know many other live cds but would really like to use the very same distribution, i.e. sidux-live-cd, every time I need to boot from cd (and installing an editor when you need to fumble around with your network simply isn't possible).
So please reconsider your decision and allow this exeption _for good reasons_. |

I do not agree, and am no more likely to agree if you use lots of underscores in a follow up.
If anything I start to think if adding nano to other builds and not to kde-lite is the wrong thing to do then it should be removed from the other profiles to avoid this same fight reoccuring.
nano is apt-get'able, deal with it |

| Thanks for the hint of using vi/m instead of mcedit from within mc. Though I'm using it for years I wasn't aware of that option. |
