Maybe you did it intentionally, then you won't consider this a bug report:
I was very surprised when I tried to edit a system config file using mc on ourea live cd. Something opened and I didn't know how to exit. Afterwards I understood that it was "vim". |

I was presented nano instead of vim. Are you sure about vim? mc has an option "use internal editor", which gives you mcedit as an editor. nano can be quit rather easily with CTRL-X, while at vim you have to press <ESC> several times and type :q!<RETURN> then.
Generally, would there be any problem with using mcedit as default editor? |

| I'll vote for that: mcedit as default. +1 |

@ ModestUser
It can't have been nano, because nano is not part of the live cd, (although many users have voted for nano as a userfriendly cl editor). It did not fumble around with "ctrl".
And yes, it definitifly was and is vim when you press "F4" in mc on live cd.
@ x-un-i
I really can't understnad, why you moved it to requests. A not skilled user who findes himself in front of vim will have serious problems. Or is this part of the "how-do-we-force-every-user-to-become-a-linux-guru" program? |

It's quite easy to set it back to the embedded editor via configuration menu
I did it, as I really go mad with vim |

michaa,
this is not a preset done by sidux but by the maintainer of the package.
i agree its not a good idea because mc should stay a 'low level' editor.

devil,
thanks for the info.
BTW: to re-include nano still would be appreciated very much. But that's slightly OT in this thread ... |

Nothing is set in /etc/skel/ for any of our preseeding.
What is the exact configuration change and location on the filesystem to make this happen? |

if you mean how you can set it back to mcedit, it's easy:
open mc
select configuration in the options menu
check the box use internal editor.

There is a file:
/var/lib/dpkg/alternatives/editor
and a command:
EXPORT editor = /usr/sbin/mcedit
but 'I have no clue how it works.
Maybe
"dpkg-reconfigure editor" ? |
