Post subject: iceweasel 3.0.3-1 as KDE standard browser: bug & workaro  PostPosted: Oct 07, 2008 - 09:02 AM

There is an old bug revived in iceweasel 3.0.3-1 which renders it useless as standard browser for KDE applications, you get a pop up message like "Iceweasel is already running ..."

The solution is: edit the command in kcontrol (components ... standardbrowser) to
Code:
iceweasel -a iceweasel

Here a link to a screenshot how it should look like (I have a German localisation):

I expect the bug to be fixed soon, but this workaround is fine for now (the new iceweasel fixes security issues, so I recommend updating it and applying this simple workaround).

Hier ist die Info auf Deutsch

Thank you for this workaround.
That error message was about to drive me nuts.

It doesn't work with non-KDE apps e.g. icedove.

For non KDE apps one has to search. "iceweasel -a iceweasel" is the command to start iceweasel in the same instance (which should be default but is not). Unfortunatelly I do not use icedove or pidgin, so I am of no help where to find the command line.

But I hope it will be fixed soon, the bug is graded as "important".

Fix is simple. In /usr/lib/iceweasel/iceweasel find :

Code:
 # OK, here's where all the real work gets done

 # parse command line
APPLICATION_ID=firefox
 VERBOSE=
 DEBUG=0
 DEBUGGER=

and change "firefox" to "iceweasel"

Gee,

seems to be fixed! Just did an upgrade to 3.0.3 and took a look at /usr/lib/iceweasel/iceweasel and the "APPLICATION_ID" was already changed to "Iceweasel".
