I've been using Linux for somewhere around 2 years now so I'm still a noob.
I tried sidux in the past along with pretty much every other free english using OS out there.
My distro of choice has been PCLinuxOS for the past 18 or so months.
I'm also the primary admin at the hack.mypclinuxos forum as well, so that kind of shows my dedication.
I've had sidux on a 250 gig maxtor sata hd for about 3 days now,,, and I'm reasonably certain it's going to stay there.
For a system that's based on unstable apps, this system seems rock solid and seems to have less quirks than "stable" systems do.
Flash and jre are the most responsive I've seen yet.
I wasn't thrilled with Iceweasle at first but after using it, it's pretty much the same as FF, for me at least.
I figured having to install one package at a time via apt-get would be a pain, but it isn't, for me at least.
All the anticipated aggravation isn't there.
Hey Devs!
Where's the fun if you remove all the aggravation?
Btw, there's another sidux user who made a sidux recommendation at the PCLinuxOS forum,,,, me.
sidux so far has joined the rank of one of my two favorite O.S.'s.
PClinuxOS and sidux and in no particular order.
Oh, yeah, webmaster or whoever,,,, a new registered user that has yahoo email doesn't get their password mailed to them.
I registered as windtalker 3 days ago here and havn't received an email and yeah, I also asked for it to be sent again. |

Another satisfied user (of ~1.7 years) welcomes you to sidux. Just so you know, there's apparently been a forum issue with passwords - instructions for a workaround are in this post.

That's ok, just delete the windtalker account as the gaytor_bayt nic is fine.
I went into irc yesterday and wasn't able to get anyone to respond so today I reregister with the gaytor_bayt nic and use gmail as the email account.
Was registered in just a few minutes and posting.
May consider adding a contact us tab/button whatever as I found no way to contact anyone with my prob.
Dunno why yahoo posed such a prob as it never has before anywhere for me. |

...
apt-get install <package1> <package2> ... <packageN>
you can even use tab complete on the package names

| Welcome to sidux, gaytor_bayt. Just wondering, what ever possessed you to try sidux from PClinuxOS? |

Thx grasshopper.
To answer your question,,, insatiable curiosity.
I have two hd's so I keep what I know is dependable on one and play on the other.
Now I have to get another hd cuz I'm stuck on sidux as well.
I've uhhhmmm, "improved" my install here learning and playing and am fixing to do a reinstall,,,, basically because I dunno what I "fixed". |

| I still waiting for a new PCLOS to come out. I loved 2007. I ran it on another computer up to a few months ago. I'm hoping the new one will be as good as the old one. |

Should be out soon.
They're locking the testing repo's for whatever reason.
Tex lives in Houston which just got slammed by the hurricane and they were out of electricity for awhile so that'll slow things up a tad.
2007 does ok for me until just lately.
FF crashes now and then and never has before.
Pidgen disconnects itself if left alone after awhile.
That's about it for what I use.
No big deal, it just irks me if something doesn't work right.
Still sold on sidux though.
It seems to get cooler everytime I look at it.
Been awhile since I've been as impressed with something as I was PCLOS. |

You don't need another hd, since you can satisfy your curiosity inside virtualbox. |

| True, that. I've gotten to the point where I don't use Virtualbox as much as I use to. |

Yeah, USB ports don't work in V-box and I've seen scads of requests on how to make them work.
I had it installed with an install that was clean and virgin to learn how to roll rpm's.
Big pain in the butt.
It was a lot easier for me to just dual boot with the same OS installed twice, that way I knew how whatever was going to react to my hardware first hand.
I don't even bother with V-Box anymore. |
