Iv had some problems with the grub setup when installing. I have to drives in my computer, one SATA and the other IDE. What happens is that the sidux installer gets the order of these disks confused. The SATA drive is the first one in bios, but it is the second in the installer. And what happens is that after I install grub doesnt find the necessary boot files. Iv circumvented the problem and sidux is running great. So Im wondering if it would be possible to be able to have an option where you could give grub the bios disk order when installing.

thanks in advance for your replies and a great distro Smile

the trouble with this is, for the few users that need it, most don't actually know they need it until they've rebooted.
Of the people left who know they need it, they can edit /boot/grub/menu.lst directly
Also, by adding the feature you want for the tiny percentage of affected users will increase the risk of the rest of the users taking advantage of the convenience and putting junk in there -> increased support load to resolve those issues

The actual issue is that a more accurate algorithm needs to be worked out for disk detection. I'm not sure that it's solvable

The installer relies on the BIOS response on default, but given that this is not always correct, it leaves you the option within the installer to address the disk to install the bootsector to explicitly.
