Dear All,

I have an old egyptian floppy screensaver program I bought years ago before I even knew about linux. It is a windows program. I want to transfer the floppy program to cd since my husband's winxp machine has no floppy drive. I tried opening the floppy from sidux with mount and I got it to open but it would only let me copy some of the files to a folder that I created and refused to finish the copy.

Would I be able to use sftp from my husband's winxp computer and open the floppy from his winxp then copy it there? I have used sftp between my two linux computers and it worked great. I have not done it between a winxp and sidux machine yet. I would like to use filezilla on his machine. I used Krusader in sidux and linuxmint.

Any way to open this floppy that I own to copy to cd so that it can be used in my husband's winxp machine will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sincerely,
Marcia

I think this technique would work to get the image of the diskette:

http://sharkysoft.com/tutorials/linuxtips/floppyimages/

Then you can extract it to your hard drive as said here:

Be VERY careful using that dd command -- I'm personally afraid of it. They say if you mix up the target and the source, you'll trash your system. Shocked

Thank you for your help. These were helpful, however, I could only open one floppy and not the other. The floppies are old so one may not be good anymore. Thanks for those links. Nice to know the facts about dd. Great tool just the same.

Sincerely,

Marcia
