Hi folks,
I am moving for couple days to a new spot. Inet there is using ppoe...username/password , you know.
I'd like to know what packages I need so I am able to configure pc so I can download/install while I have inet.
I couldn't find anything in manual regarding ppoe. Searching package list I think those makes sense
pppoe - PPP over Ethernet driver
pppoeconf - configures PPPoE/ADSL connections
pppstatus - console-based PPP status monitor
Would be great if someone can share any pointers. |

pppoe-config is installed by default. Have a look into your Kmenu > Internet.

Its installed by default under internet near the bootom.
I usually have to open sidux control center and disable the default network setting(dhcp) in order to get access, then just follow instructions, you should only require your username and password.

Yep , I found it ...it finds concentrator blabla, user password, all smooth but if I
tail -f /var/log/messages I see
165060 Aug 24 20:58:20 dexter pppd[4143]: PPP session is 4965
165061 Aug 24 20:58:20 dexter pppd[4143]: Using interface ppp0
165062 Aug 24 20:58:20 dexter pppd[4143]: Connect: ppp0 <--> eth0
165063 Aug 24 20:58:20 dexter pppd[4143]: Connection terminated.
ppp0 device I can't see at all using ifconfig -a (not 100% if there should be one but seems so)
I know I miss something small but no clue howto debug and what it might be. I tried with my windows seems no trouble there so shouldn't be network issue.
Next thing I will probably try is installing this package. Seems somehow relevant.

ppp shows in ifconfig:
Code:
ppp0 Link encap:Punkt-zu-Punkt-Verbindung
inet Adresse:77.25.239.190 P-z-P:10.64.64.64 Maske:255.255.255.255
UP PUNKTZUPUNKT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metrik:1
RX packets:1704 errors:101 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:1927 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
Kollisionen:0 Sendewarteschlangenlänge:3
RX bytes:998868 (975.4 KiB) TX bytes:168018 (164.0 KiB)
this is with a G3 (umts) connection
