Here is my situation. I have a dual boot system set up here. sidux and Win XP Pro. XP is only used to run some games. My computer is connected through a router to another computer to allow sharing files, and LAn game play. I currently use a dial-up connection, so it is easy to make sure XP has no internet access at all. I am getting Cable internet in a few days, and I want to maker sure that Xp cannot access the internet in any way, while still being able to use local lLAN rescources. Of course, I want to access the Internet with sidux.
Has anyone else done this, and how? |

if your local LAN is connected to internet... it is a part of internet... techinically speaking...
if your router is connected to internet, and you want to disable XP to see the outside of
local LAN, you can disable (not to set) the GateWay (and DNS server).
on XP, you can set them in Network -> Local connection -> property -> TCP/IP property.
(or something like that... i forgot exact text)
in case it doesn't see the server on LAN, you can put it's IP address on hosts table.
on XP it's in strange place, \windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, if I remember correctly. |

You could also configure XP to use a static IP (which differs from the one sidux uses, of course) and block WAN-access from this IP on the router.
senf hopes it helps |
