Post subject: linux-wlan-ng won't build against 2.6.26 kernels  PostPosted: Aug 10, 2008 - 05:54 PM

m-a a-i linux-wlan-ng under sidux 2.6.26 kernels says:

CC [M] /usr/src/modules/linux-wlan-ng/src/p80211/p80211netdev.o
/usr/src/modules/linux-wlan-ng/src/p80211/p80211netdev.c: In function ‘wlan_setup’:
/usr/src/modules/linux-wlan-ng/src/p80211/p80211netdev.c:951: error: ‘netdevice_t’ has no member named ‘nd_net’
make[6]: *** [/usr/src/modules/linux-wlan-ng/src/p80211/p80211netdev.o] Error 1

No problems with this on 2.6.25 and earlier. I found
no bug report at Debian; don't know whether this is an issue to be resolved by sidux or others. I'm using the latest wlan source (2.9+dfsg-1). Can anybody help?

Thanks!

It breaks with each new Linux major version; sidux team members have found it hard (in the past) to keep the linux-wlan-ng package/upstream code working; as it is demanding too much time/knowledge/expertise which we don't have.

Roby, as with fglrx, if for some reason you need one of these nasty modules, resist the urge to run the latest kernels, just install one, and leave it alone until at least 30-60 days after the release of the new major kernel version. Or just leave it alone altogether, and only update your kernel when you read reports that the update is actually working on the new kernels.

With fglrx, which is the one I deal with in sgfxi, basically, sid doesn't work with the debian fglrx-driver, they aren't synced, so you're better off just running the debian testing kernels and leaving it alone completely.

Does the driver then work properly on that kernel version?

That kind of speaks for itself.
