I can't seem to view any more than the last months worth
of mails in any folder. I even have some folders which appear
completely empty but only because the most recent mail
was more than a month old. I can verify that the mails exist
because I can access and read them with an ordinary text editor.
I'm probably missing something really simple but I need help.
(I'm guessing this is one of those mozilla config defaults which
have to be edited by hand).
Anyone know how I can access mails more than a month old? |

We learn a little more each day.
I discovered the problem lies in the header of each mail.
On my system all my mails older than a month have:-
X-Mozilla-Status: 0019
Whereas they should at least have:-
X-Mozilla-Status: 0000 means the mail is unread
or
X-Mozilla-Status: 0001 means the mail is read
I've no idea what 0019 means and looking at thhe codes for
X-Mozilla-Status:
http://www.eyrich-net.org/mozilla/X-Moz ... us.html?en
I'm no wiser.
From a brief look at the Thunderbird support archives and as I
understand it mails can be marked as deleted but are not actually
deleted until they are compacted and placed in the trash bin.
Anyway it's a trivial matter to reset the status to 0001 and all
the old mails are back. Only to discover I have mail going back
as far as Jan 14 2004. I was never one for throwing old stuff away!
Beats me though why my mails should have been marked as status 0019 except that Icedove was updated recently, |

The correct solution was the "Disk Space" setting in Accounts.
It had somehow been set to delete mails over 30 days old.
Now set to Don't delete. |
