I want to change the default program in the preferences in Iceweasel but can't figure out how.
For e.g., for opening pdf files, the default is KGhostView. Why that is, I don't know since I just read that program is for Postscript files. But, moving on... I tried 'Control Center' and for pdf associations, KPDF is at the top of the list but the default in Iceweasel didn't change. I guess that Iceweasel extensions or helper applications don't matter or relate to any system changes in Control Center?!?
I am wondering if I use 'about:config' I have no other ideas. I hope to find out soon. I think the designation of KGhostview to opening pdf files is either a mistake or a bug. It doesn't make sense. |

If it's as it should be, same as Firefox, try this.
Edit --> Preferences
Select the Applications Tab,
Go down to Portable Document Format and see what's listed. I've got 'always ask' with the option to change it to kpdf, konqueror, or other.
You 'should' be able to change that.

| I can change to ask but the default is stuck on KGhostview. I can change to 'use KPDF' but the default should be changeable, no? |

I have two entries for that format, and there are two drop-down boxes in each of them.
The first one (application force-download) has the options of 'always ask' 'save file'
Next group is 'Use' 'use other'
Next group is 'Application details'
Changing the second group (application/pdf) to 'use kpdf' caused a pdf document to open immediately from a parts distributor's website. I was also able to change it to 'use konqueror', and it opened the same pdf in konqueror.
Didn't locate any information in my control center about pdf associations, but this is an older sidux.
After doing the change and looking again, the default had changed. I just used the 'close' button and it saved.
Does that resemble yours? I wondered for a moment whether it could be a preferences location problem, but that doesn't sound reasonable. |
