Here is a test look of how the sidux manual will behave

It prob will not validate aand also misbehave, as i have been stuffing around with it adding pics with incorrect coding , however it will give a general idea.

When un-tar click on ttt or ttt1

Please try it in iceweasel first then konqueror..

Attached for download and feedback is a working model of the sidux-manual
Please note: it does not validate.. (the proper css and possibly javascripting needs to be done as it flickers in konqueror)

Also note: the current menu layout going to be unworkable for the sidux-manual, as we will have about 50 headings
My preference is for this style
http://css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic2/vertical11.htm

Concept
All Headings and subheadings are on separate pages

This has several outstanding advantages:

1) Its Modular: This means that for any given version of sidux, a sidux-manual can be put together very quickly by cherry picking the pages required. For example. if a CAD version is created, we make up a sidux-manual for that version with all the pages pertaining to CAD. yet the general-sidux-manual doesn't get CAD pages. Same goes for a Music version or what ever version we decide to produce.

Whats more we don't need to reinvent the manual each time,, its just a matter of wondering into the sidux-manual supermarket and saying "i will add this page , this one, this one, (you should by now get the idea)

2) A live-cd can have cherry picked picked pages of the sidux-manual included on it with no need for hours of recoding the pages

3) No need to hunt through 40000 lines of code to make an addition/edit/deletion.
you only need to look for one page and each page will probably only 30 lines of code.

4) It means new pages can be created extremely quickly, and indeed several pages dealing with the same area can be worked on simultaneously by several people, proofread,, then they can added to the sidux-manual.

5) It means that the editor can create/add/edit pages which then are uploaded to a holding folder.to be vetted/proofread before being let into the wild.

6) it means old pages can be archived by the same manner.

7) The editor does not have to worry that a coding slip-up which may stuff up whole sections of the sidux-manual, as it only effects one page.

Cool Each editor can validate the page without having to validate the whole sidux-manual.

Other matters
Maintainers
The function of the Maintainers is to take the pages from the holding folder and attach the url to the Menu.htm. this is to ensure quality control and minimal stuffing up
I think there should be no more than 2 maintainers for each language
Maintainers have full sidux-manual rights

Editors
We need about 6-10 initially for each language to get through the 100-150 pages that are needed
Editors have rights to the holding folder only,

PS
I have noted a request for code boxes.. and will see what can be done getting into css

PSS
hmm that upload was faulty
new file test3

Remember this is proof-of-concept only

Edit:: The attachment has been taken down , pending latest version which is currently in the engineering shop,, lots of banging, swearing cussing and other unspeakable and non repeatable sounds and acts happening.

This third version looks very good!
The over the css style imported menu is excellent and really ease to add new pages.

But we have to switch the green color of the menue. The red sentence " Welcome to he Official sidux Manual" is at the moment hard to read.

I wouldn't mind editing the English section at all.

sidux-manual-test6
CLICK THE INDEX.HTM
NOTE: This is a pilot only
The coding is not consistent YET but will be
menu is normal font now not so chunky
links working for sub menu headings
The back to main menu is a dummy link
The green in the menu will be changed once official art is decided on

Things i need feedback on are:
Font sizing
Colours for warnings
So far Warnings are red
Watch-out is a green ,, another colour preferable
Some are still blue which should only be used for url linking
Proposals for other colours so far are:
Watch-out to be orange
tips/recommendations to be violet

I would love to help. I don't know how good I would be. I am new to linux, about 3 months now. Started with kanotix and moved here when I found out about it. If it is just reading and correcting spelling and grammer then I can probably help. Can't code or draw.

Fabulous offers from those that have put their hands up to get involved

We are currently getting the structures and templates in place, and we anticipate that as the body of work grows and gets coded up we are going to need it reviewed.

Languages - If you can state your preferences that would be good.

suggestion: Warnings should be YELLOW, Watch Out items should be in RED and Tips/Hints should be in GREEN or in italics.
