Update 11/03/08
Same boot problem back with all the 2.6.27 kernels, even in other distros (Mepis)....

Oh well, not the end of the world, probably just some bug in the HP DV6000 series notebooks.

sidux still rocks though!

Update!!! 10/01/08

after updating to the latest kernel 2.6.26-5.slh.8-sidux-686, my HP DV6745US laptop boots perfectly. I don't have to hit the power button to get it to resume booting.

sidux ROCKS!!!

After installing the latest Kernel 2.6.26-0.slh.6 via smxi, my computer hangs after selecting the grub menu option.

It goes to a black screen, if I hit the power button it suddenly comes to life, and boots normally. (the hang is before init).

I'm running an HP dv6745us notebook, Turion 64 X2, Nvidia chipset mainboard, Nvidia 7150 graphics.

Kernel 2.6.26-0.slh.5 did the same thing.

All the 2.5.25 kernels booted normally.

My grub entry looks the same as the previous kernels (with the exception of the new kernel numbers)

I have a slightly older HP laptop. There is a slight "pause" in booting the 2.6.26 kernels which occurs between leaving the grub display and the appearance of the two penguins. The pause lasts about 2 or 3 seconds and gives a black screen. I see no errors in dmesg except for the pcspkr that has been mentioned elsewhere on this forum.

I also got a hang with 2.6.26-0.slh.6-sidux-686 on fairly ancient hardware (Motherboard: VT82C693A/694x [Apollo PRO133x], Pentium III (Katmai) size: 550MHz). Another possible kernel issue, with the other kernels I find that if I use the CPU much (almost inevitable with my old processor) that kacpid eats all my processor cycles if I don't disable ACPI in grub using 2.6.25-11.slh.1-sidux-686 & 2.6.25-9.slh.1-sidux-686. I upgraded kernels hoping this issue would go away.

2.6.26-0.slh.6 hangs here too in virtualbox sidux erebos. No slight "pause" - just dead, black, no penguin. I'm not very keen on testing that on a real machine...

There is a new slh kernel released every day or two. This is the first one I've seen that didn't boot up properly. I guess 2.6.26 is very new, still working out some major boogs.

I have the same hang on boot problem with 2.6.26-0.slh.6-sidux-686.
I have a HP Pavilion dv6000.
When I remove the boot parameters "quit and vga=791" the boot hang at
"ACPI: EC: non-query interrupt recieved, switching to interrupt mode"
by hitting return it goes on up to
"PCI using ACPI for IRQ rating"
and hangs again, if I then hit the power button boot goes on normally.
The 2.6.25-kernels don't have this problem.
My old thinkpad 600e boot normally with the 2.6.26-kernels.

For people who are having issues with 2.6.26, in smxi there is also the latest 2.6.25-13 kernel in advanced kernel install options.

Also having problems with 2.6.26-0.slh.8-sidux-686 on boot:
Code:
/scripts/init-premount/udev : line 17 : udevd not found
/init : line 1 : udevsettle not found

2.6.26-0.slh.6-sidux-686 is fine, however.

Just d-u'd to 2.6.26.0.slh.8-sidux-amd64

got the pcspkr 'warning' during boot.

some bullshit about lilo. I don't use lilo. It's not installed. What up with that?

Otherwise seems ok.
