Good news to owners of a nintendo wii gaming console:
There are now packages in debian that allow you using your wii controllers like the wiimote with linux!
see:
http://www.wiili.org/index.php/CWiid
Unfortunately I can not test it myself because I don't have a computer with bluetooth or a wii
But I've seen videos of it (pleny of them on googlevid/youtube...) and it sure looks really cool.
If any wii users here get it working I'd like to see some screenshots/vids of it running on sidux |

wmgui sees remote everything works buttons/motion/ir only in wmgui. How do I map it to my cursor? |

I tried it a while ago, using the wii remote to rotate the compiz cube and drag windows around.
I was fun for about 30 seconds and that's about it.
Once I find a better use for it I'm sure it will be more fun.
Though if you have a wii, why are you spending time fiddling around with the computer? |

and watch the video; it is awesome what CAN be done.
I tried to find out how and if so when we can have this on linux. First here is what Johnny Chung Lee says:
Quote:
Mac/Linux Versions: Due to personal time contraints, I've had to hand off Mac and linux development to other members of the Source Forge Project - Wiimote Whiteboard. Check there if a release has been made. If you are a Mac/Windows/Linux developer, please help spread the love and join the project. A lot of people are waiting to use your software. You can subscribe to updates at my Project Blog [procrastineering.com] .
A visit to this project's FAQ and Advanced Discussion post may be very englightening. You may also find the official discussion forums for my wiimote projects helpful: WiimoteProject.com
https://sourceforge.net/projects/wiiwhiteboard/
The project is listed as "MIT License". It would be cool if someone could comment on MIT vs GPL compatibility.
And now for the probably best news:
https://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php ... _id=766286
There are already several similar projects going and it looks they are considering to merge them. And if a bunch of open source devs bundle with a scientist in human computer interaction something really nice could come out. |

The MIT license basically says that you can do anything with the source code, as long as the original author gets credit. It does not require that changed source code be rereleased back into the community as does GPL.
How Debian handles this, I am unsure at this time. |

ok. the linux port is gpl according the its google code page. so this looks like no issue then
So then someone should be able to make a package of this with no problems...perhaps could get accepted by debian |
