Hi All,
I know that this is no longer supported but I would like to know how to install sidux from a debian base install. I've seen the instructions a hundred times but now I can't find them to save my life. Could someone please point me in the right direction.
Thanks,
A |

Installing distributionX and then post-installing some packages from distributionY is not equal to installing distributionY directly. I don't know how it can be construed to be that way...
You have Debian installed directly, what exactly to you hope to benefit from by making your system more "sidux-like"? |

I would like to run sidux without the kde or xfce desktops, but I like sidux very much.

Hi All,
If anyone else wants to know, the instructions are here:

Thanks to All, Great distro!
Arthur
Those instructions are very much outdated, and following them will not create a sidux system. As said above, install sidux and remove whatever you do not like to use. The best base for that would probably the XFCE-version.
Greetings,

Just out of curiosity, what desktop (if any) do you want to use? |

I will be trying E17. Thanks for the replies, I have a spare partition on my hard drive so I'll try apt-get remove first. The problem that I'm running into with kde is that when I push the eject button on my cdrom or when I right click in konqueror and ask it to eject a cd, it ejects them and then immediately sucks them back in. This of course really screws up the cd and dvd burning software.

| The same thing happened to me with xfce. At the time I thought it was because I was mounting the (real) cd in a virtualbox machine, having seen several reports (most attributing it to a kde bug), I'm not so sure... |

I've posted the cdrom problem to the hardware forum. I would rather not scrap this installation but when trying to burn and verify the burn it is more than a minor annoyance. If this happens on xfce as well then perhaps its a sidux problem. Anyway I've posted the cd problem here:

Thanks,
