Time ago, I was able to convert my audio cds to mp3. After loading them into the cdrom drive, konqueror opened and a filebrowser window showed separate directories like "mp3, oggvorbis" and others (the codecs, I had installed).
This is past.
Now I get an errormessage when I am loading the cd and konqueror will start. The message is like "audiocd is a wrong protocol". I only can click to "OK" or "abort", the result is the same: konqueror doesn't start.
It is possible to play the cd with kaffeine (or others) and the tracks are shown by the program, but it is not possible to show the cd-content in the filebrowser konqueror.
I am running sidux with the newest kernel and the last d-u (smxi) was on July, 14th 2008.
what can I do ?
thank you very much for answering

thank you towoł for that question it solved my problem
The kdemultimedia-kio-plugins weren't present, I don't know, why, because before the last smxi they were just installed....
Now the problem is fixed. |

I was happy, too early.
The folders with the "codecs" are appearing, but when I want to copy the "mp3-s" to another folder, I get an error message "**multimedia** is ignoring the -r parameter" and a lib-file is remarked. (right now, I can't remember the name, I am not at home).
The targetfile (file extension "*.mp3" instead of extension ".wav") is been written, but the content is 0kb....
I re-installed **multimedia** with apt-get install, but the error is still present. |

| Why not just use Kaudiocdcreator or another ripping tool. Even k3b could rip it. |

It's libsndfile. But the problem ist the new encoder from the French repo. The older version in the testing repo of the French man works. You have to downgrade the difficult way, otherwise myriads of multimedia applications would be removed.
Note to everybody (not just maiemi):
If you do not understand this following instruction, leave it! This is non supported DOWNGRADING from a non supported third party repo!
I will not give more detailed explanations, because I'll surely not support any breakages or grievances which I have not inflicted on your boxes.
Sketch of instructions:
- pin testing to 1001
- disable all repos apart the one from the French man!!!
- apt-get update
- apt-get dist-upgrade -s (really check that only MM stuff is downgraded)
- apt-get dist-upgrade
- release the pinning of testing
- apt-get update
- apt-get remove --purge msttcorefonts
- apt-get install msttcorefonts
- pin the encoder and it's lib to the version of testing
- enable all other repos again
- apt-get update
- life with sidux proceeds as usual
Again:
If you do not understand what I am saying, use a ripper like soundkonverter, kaudiocreator or k3b for ripping CDs or downgrade the encoder the hard way: letting the applications go and reinstall them.
Gosh: after the ffmpeg disaster now this. Does this French man have a new girl friend?

It's just convenient doing it with drag&drop. But the downgrade of the encoder is a bit of a drag now.
