I'm really confused of how to dist-upgrade. I just learned that sidux uploaded some corrected kde stuff in its repo and now debian has them as well. My dist-upgrade looks like this
Quote:
The following packages have been kept back:
gpm vlc vlc-nox
The following packages will be REMOVED:

The only package to be eliminated is kdebase-bin-kde3, but

aptp kdebase-bin-kde3
kdebase-bin-kde3:
Installed: 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+c0.sidux.2
Candidate: 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-4
Version table:
4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-4 0

*** 4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+c0.sidux.2 0
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
4:3.5.9.dfsg.1-2+b1 0
500 http://ftp.uk.debian.org testing/main Packages

Should I upgrade kdebase-bin-kde3 first and then dist-upgade, or should I just dist-upgrade and forget about kdebase-bin-kde3?

Thanks

Install ktorrent2.2 first, the "ktorrent" package is now built against kde4 libs. See other threads for more details.

You could them proceed normally.

Thank you, installing ktorrent2.2 makes apt-get to not remove anything. However, I was lucky to not dist-upgrade yesterday and I avoided the lsb-* related stuff

op4latino, apt-get install gpm brings in the fixes, that includes all gpm using console apps like links2

The vlc stuff you must fix yourself, see the vlc thread for hubi's advice, best idea is to never use the ffmpeg junk from the bad repos, no issues with debian ffmpeg.

I suggest you simply remove vlc stuff first.

Just some recent info from the debian kde4 maintainers about unstable:

Quote:
The important part about RC 1 in Debian is we finally have kde4libs, kdepimlibs and kdebase-runtime in unstable, and they are meant to be released in Lenny.
Together with those packages, some KDE 4 applications have been uploaded to unstable:
- okular, the KDE 4 document viewer, has been packaged separately, and if you try it, I am sure you will love it Wink
- ktorrent 3.1.1 is now the default ktorrent version (you still can install KDE 3’s version that has been renamed to ktorrent2.2)
- and systemsettings, split from kdebase-workspace with less modules have been package separately, so you can configure the settings of KDE 4 packages.

See here for deatils about kde4.1 in experimental

Yes, thank you for that information, taffy. If you remove ktorrent and install ktrorrent2.2, it does not seem to remove kdebase-bin-kde3. You can now make your usual updates, I think.
