Post subject: Eject opens cd-tray and closes it immediately  PostPosted: Jul 14, 2008 - 09:12 PM

I have a strange problem with opening tray of my CD-RW and DVD-RW drives. When I want to open the tray and take out the CD or DVD, the tray opens and closes immediately. It happens only when doying it from the software (konqueror media folder, "eject" command, k3b after recording etc.). If there is a CD in drive, tray stays open only if I open it manually by pushing the button on the drive, and only when CD wasn't mounted yet. Tested without X too. If there's no CD in the drive, tray always stays open. My system is fresh after dist-upgrade. I haven't noticed the moment when it started to act this way. Any advice?

Ive had this happen to me after burning discs too. Very annoying as you dont know when the burn is finished if u miss it pop out then go straight back in- let alone trying to get the bugger out. Ive also noticed setting the disc not to eject after burning can cause k3b to jib out for a while on closing the session- again making it hard to tell if burn is completed or not....

Hi!
Same thing with my box. The tray closes immediately, whether I eject from k3b or manually with the drive's button.
The only way to get the disc out is "catching" the try before it closes again. The disc was burned without any errors.

I first noticed this after the d-u I did last night (2008-07-14 around 18:00).

Greetings

Ofi

I've noticed this for a while too, it's gotten so annoying that I find myself actually avoiding using k3b at all. And often I am forced to manually force open the cd tray by sticking a pin into that little hole. I only saw this in k3b, and had assumed it was a k3b bug, but from this thread it appears it's a larger bug.

It's not a k3b bug as it happens to me in sidux and antiX using brasero and eject from rox-filer.

I think it must be bug of some mounting daemon (Hal?), because when you push the eject button on the drive again, before the CD gets mounted, it opens and this time stays opened.

EDIT: I checked it: after stopping hal (/etc/init.d/hal stop) the bug doesn't happen for me, but CD's also don't get mounted anymore.

Hi,

I haven't found a solution to the problem but I also have fedora fc9 running on this computer and the problem exists there as well.
It's not the operating system and it's not KDE because my fc9 installation runs gnome. If it is a problem with hal I guess we'll just have to wait for them to fix it unless someone finds a work around.

Good Luck,
Arthur

dibl@erebos64:~$ uname -a
Linux erebos64 2.6.25-11.slh.2-sidux-amd64 #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Jul 17 13:38:58 UTC 2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I did d-u 5 minutes ago and just now ran K3b. "Device > Eject" and "> Load" opens and closes the tray as expected. My optical drive is an Asus DRW-1608P PATA drive.
